Vacuum Packaging A Wedding Gown?

Recommended Posts

After expressing how stressful it seems to travel with a wedding gown, one of the consultants at the bridal shop offered an interesting alternative. She stated that there is an option to vacuum package my dress and that would make it small enough to put in a carry on bag. She said they layer protective tissue first, then vacuum package the dress and it ends up being about the size of a watermelon, just more cylinder like in shape. Upon arrival, the dress would need steaming as most dresses do. Has anyone had experience with this/heard of it?

Exactly what I am worried about! I think I might consider doing it and bringing a back up garment bag. Glad I am not the only one who had never heard of it! :)

And, if you put it in your checked baggage you may take the risk of your luggage getting lost. (nevermind you'd still bring it in carry on!!!)

Also, it sounds like a good idea in theory, but to risk your wedding dress? I am not brave enough.

I'd rather iron and/or steam it when I get there....  from being shoved in an overhead bin!

My fiance keeps saying he was told to roll it up over a large object to help it from wrinkling..

who knows!
