Family Being Awful About Wanting A Mexico D/w. Help :(

Recommended Posts

  • 3 weeks later...

congrats and im just supporting what the other brides say.

Remember..every comment, commentary and negative is just noise

Whenever someone says to me about money, safety, etc my canned response is "i totally understand if you dont attend"

dont feed into their drama about any of it...thats all they want.  no dollar amount is cheap enough, no gated community is secure enough..it has nothing to do with you and your wedding and all to do with them and thier issues...so dont own their issues....keep it with them

rememver:  I have a family, its expensive, blah blah "i totally understand if you dont attend"

have your heard about kidnappings and so unsafe?  "i totally understand if you don't attend"

it woudl be so much easier if you ahd in the USA "i totally understand if you don't attend"

its that easy....

Hi !

I am so sorry to hear of this situation.

You are not alone, as you can see.

I went through the same thing..

You are just fine with sending the invite at 7 months.

It is more than enough time.  You will read 8 months is the standard but 7 is ok.

I have good days and bad days.

You and your fiance have to be on the same page at all times.

This is how we pushed through all of the negativity.

Stay strong, I echo everyone's "this is YOUR day".

People will always have something to say.

Trust me, most of us searched far and wide locally in the states, but it just did not seem "fun".  As someone mentioned earlier, everyone you talk to who had a local wedding always wishes for a destination.

Noone in my family has been to a destination wedding so I am nervous.  This is what you need to remember:

-send invites in advance

-find a payment plan (usually with an agent)

-consider having a post-wedding celebration in your hometown when you return

-know in your heart that not everyone will be joining you, make this your mantra "This is where we are having it.  If you dont' have fun, that's your own fault"  Its our little saying that keeps us laughing, after all, you are inviting people to paradise.  If they are miserable all the there, that ok.  If there are miserable during the trip, not ok.......... dont let their comments effect the execution of your fun, creative, unique day.

-choose a family friendly resort ( we have 4 children under age two attending.......................)  be very considerate to families, their childrens needs, etc.  it is tough for them to travel etc and we do understand and we do want to make their experience pleasant.

Go to mexico, have a blast,  it will eliminate all the complainers and non-believers.  Its your love story, continue to write it.

Each day is a new day is what we say.  Even if our family is on board one day, the next day, they change their minds :/  Stay strong with all the flip flopping..................  Remember it will all be ok when they get there. Its up to them to get there, so you take your time with each of them, be patient, and stick through it.

CONGRATS to you all !!!  :)

Anita

@@november15 so true! We haven't gotten a lot of negative comments. Only a few complaints that our resort was too expensive so they're going somewhere else. I agree with you, it's usually about them and not us. They want to go to a party hotel and I guess ours doesn't fit the bill. It's not about the money, it's about what they envision our hotel will be like. On the other hand, friends that we honestly didn't think would go are coming. Three of them will have kids or small babies, all under the age of 3. It's great and that's exactly why we didn't choose a party hotel, or an adults only hotel.

I guess you can't please everyone and people are so quick to judge, "you chose the most expensive hotel you could find", "you are so inconsiderate" and on and on. People will never understand how hard it is to choose a resort that you think will please you along with everyone else, who fits all your requirements and that hopefully it doesn't break the bank. They also don't understand how expensive a destination wedding still is for the bride and groom. In the end they end up being the inconsiderate ones but whatever. I'm trying to focus on all the people who are coming with us and having a good time with them  :D

I say just ignore the comments!!

We have 75 people coming and 12 of those are kids. They range from 5 months to 5 years. My sisters have taken their kids on multiple trips to Mexico and have never had issues. I think that in general the resorts are very safe for families.

It is your day, just be strong and enjoy it!!

@@TinkerSofi ... a party hotel with no one they know to party with! I have never been on a vacation with 40 people I know, we will be the freaking party! Don't need a party hotel for that.

That's what I said! Just being there with friends and family makes it fun but I guess that's not enough party for some people. Yeah i guess it won't be filled with wet t shirt contests and drunk teenagers throwing up on the pool but I'm ok with that haha. I think it's the group you're with that makes the fun. Most of our guests are our age so it will be tons of fun :).

That's like us! We have almost 20 kids coming.... From 1 year old to 12! We chose a resort that really was fantastic for families.... And everyone is excited.

I think it's the best vacation you can have if you have small kids. You don't have to walk around all day as when you go to actually visit a place and get to know it. You just chill by the beach, they can play in the sand and maybe you can do a tour which is age appropriate for them :)
