Hair Extensions - Help!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was looking for some advice regarding hair extensions. I have shoulder length, very fine, straight, blonde hair and would love to have some volume on my wedding day. I would like to either do my hair half up/half down...or wavy and loosely pulled back in a low ponytail or bun.

Does anyone have any advice on which brand works best? Real human hair or synthetic? Would synthetic work better if I want to keep loose curls (I am getting married in Jamaica which is humid)?

I've never worked with extensions before. Are they fairly easy to use? Last of all, how much do they usually cost as I have a very strict budget (FI the banker!!)

Thanks!! smile03.gif

I'm looking to do the same thing Cherie. I was at Sally Beauty Supply last night and for human hair at 14" length it would cost $82.00, this brand had the clips in them, which is what I want and what my hair stylist recommended. Might be worth checking out.

I definitely want to use the clips, and that will cut down on cost. I would like to use real hair, but would this keep the curl in it? How are you planning on doing your hair with the extensions Karen? Will you be putting them in yourself, or would a hair salon be putting them in for you the day of your wedding? I'm worried the salon in Jamaica may not be able to put them in, and I know I'll probably be useless at it!!!

beachbride: I think I will go with the real hair...however, I am worried about it drooping in the humidity.

Hi Cherie, my hairstylist recommended I buy clipless extensions and sew the clips in myself (would be less expensive), yeah right, not going for that option, I'd mess that up for sure, lol. I want to wear my hair half up, half down, and curled, which is the way I wear it most days and it stays pretty well, I'll see if I can post the picture I'm going to use. I too am worried about the salon at the resort being able to put the clips in but I'm hoping it's something they've done before, I know my resort has tons of weddings. My hairstylist did show me how to put them in, but they're in the back and sides of my head, so it would be a bit difficult.

You can buy the ones with clips at Sallys but remember the size of the head varies from each person, ask if you can measure it before buying , if you have an small head, the clips will end near your eyebrows!!!

You can always sew your on clips, is very easy dont worry!!! My sis is a hairstylis I have helped her many times!!!

I just bought extensions a few weeks ago and love them! I bought real hair, the types that clip in and they were $250.00. There are probably 8 or so "pieces" that came in the set, some with three sections of extensions, some that are singles.

I took them to my stylist to do a trial run (yes, a trial run before I do a trial run in Cabo...I'm that worried about my hair!) and they looked awesome. She only put in a few of the pieces, but it added quite a bit of lenght, my hair looked fabulous in a pony tail, I have shoulder-length hair right now, and then she did a few attempts at differnet styles. I will post pics so you can see the ponytail extension, and then what I looked like with them just in regular.

Honestly, I will probably be using them in the future, they are so much fun! But definitely buy the real hair, and don't get the ones that are glued/sealed into your hair b/c it causes way too much long term damage.

Oh, and I bought mine at a wig store!

I would love to see both of your pictures!!!!

What brand of hair did you end up buying? Does it match perfectly to your own hair color? I think getting the clips in small pieces is the way to go...I really don't want it wrappping around to my eyebrows lol! Where exactly did your hairdresser put them...at the nape of your neck or was it higher? Does the clip feel heavy on your head?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions...but I've never done anything like this before and it worries me!!
