Anyone Else Overwhelmed With Cost?

Recommended Posts

I agree @@TinkerSofi and my FI always gets a kick out of it...he says I should tattoo the phrase "Do you know how much this would cost here?" to my forehead because its usually what I say when I get a bit overwhelmed. I have a HUGE family and the fact that our wedding total is currently at 32 not 320 is very comforting :D

that's always my go to phrase to rationalize all costs haha.

Yes certainly overwhelmed and always trying to weigh what is most important to us. I think we have been pretty realistic with budget etc but certain things have taken me by surprise. Agree with the personalization advice! So true.

I should tattoo 'that's NOT in the budget' on my forehead lol....

I agree, some things totally took me by surprise!!! I had to adjust my budget a few times. Big one was wedding bands! I think I budgeted $500 total for both of ours, and we ended up paying $1000. But I saved on my dress. LIke was said in another thread, it's a give and take -- some come in under budget and some go way over. Photography was another one - which is kind of silly because I know what it costs in Canada. I think because it was never that high on my list. I was going to use my fiance's cousin but she is not coming (which in hindsite is a blessing..drama!) hehe. So when I had to add that cost on, I had to take a big gulp.

Hahaha that's why we are doing a destination so we can invite the whole world, fully knowing everyone won't show up. Have massive family and opinionated family members

I think that it's until you accept that DW weddings are really not as cheap as everyone thinks haha. You eventually get used to it. If you have any doubts, call around some vendors in your city to reassure yourself that you made the right choice ;). I think after you get over the initial shock you realize everything is actually quite affordable when put into perspective :). Just the fact that we don't have to invite all these people that we see once a year but they keep asking us when they'll get their invitation <_<  saves us a lot of money hahaha.

Be careful!  We had a huge turnout!  I think we invited around 60 and 45 are coming (well possibly 47 due to fiance's cousin's sister who would like to come)...  I never budgeted for it because I never in a million years thought they would all come!   Our number may grow as we have 1 or 2 couples we have left open for a last minute addition due to their finances, etc.  But I am capping at 50 for numbers reasons (favors, tables, etc.).   When I did my initial budget I said 30 -- then as we got closer to RSVP time I went to 35... but in that last few days before the deadline to book I had a swack of people!!  Needless to say I had to adjust my budget again!

Careful with that as it can be a double edged sword. Most of the people that we thought wouldn't come actually booked with us ahah. We're still super excited that they can make it, but we had made a list of those who "probably would say no" to try and get some realistic numbers as to how big our wedding would be and how much it would cost. That totally backfired on us haha. We still only invited people who were very close to us so it's not a big deal, but you always get those odd acquaintances that really make things awkward and ask you when they'll get their invitation. I really don't know if they do it to be polite in their eyes or they really expect to be invited but the first few times it really caught us off guard and we didn't know what to say. Now we just say that we would have loved to invite everyone but we're having a really intimate wedding.

Yes true! My sister did a destination wedding two years ago and has 70 people come. We would love for everyone come but 70 is better than 200. We are looking to do a cruise, so would just pay for ceremony and food is included on ship. Sounds so cheap but just struggle to justify paying 30,000+ dollars for one day. Would rather a week to celebrate

We invited the same number that wipe would have had we had a wedding at home, I think about 150 ish. And we have 68 adults and 13 kids confirmed and we are 47 days til we leave! It's quite a few more than we were anticipating!! And our package includes 25 and everyone over that is about $125. Yikes!! But still, it is waaaayyyyy cheaper than doing a wedding here!

We just watched it and LOL a few times. It's so true that adding wedding on jacks up the cost. And stuffing the envelopes. Loved it. Thanks!
