Cost For Photographer In Cancun?

If ever you are getting married in the Riviera Maya, Mexico winter 2016 and are looking for a great affordable photographer, you should check out Denis Murphy at www.MurphyDPhoto.com. He is a talented Canadian wedding photographer who works with a second shooter. The second shooter also happens to be a makeup artist if you need one. He has done many of my friends and families weddings and they all loved his style, personality and of course the photos. He also does trash the dress photo sessions. He is worth a look!

I am using Pixan Photography. From what I can see, he can really capture the feelings of the moment. I think their proposals were extremely reasonably priced and they always respond promptly to my emails. I feel very confident that im going to be soooo happy with our wedding photography. If you are considering using an outside vendor, you should take a look at Pixan.

So, based on this thread, I'm gathering that I'm looking at a cost of $1000 - $5000 (I assume USD) to hire a local photographer. One of our guests is a wedding photographer in Canada and I would love to have him shoot our wedding.

What do you think is the best way to go about it? Ask him for a quote? Offer to pay for his flight/accommodation (which would be around $2000 CAD)? Obviously I want to pay as little as possible, but I don't want to rip off my friend either. Maybe he doesn't even want the job, since it's his vacation.

We do get 1 hour of photography and I believe 24 photos included in our package. That's with Adventure Photo (I think that's what they're called). But I am not sure of the quality and I think I would like to capture more than just the ceremony and the post-ceremony shots. Assuming I hire my friend, I may look at using them for something else - an optional family photo shoot for our guests? I know one bride who did that.

Oh and I believe I don't have to pay a vendor fee for my friend, since he's a resort guest. Or maybe it was $65. I know it was $0 or minimal.

I'd ask your friend flat out what his services would cost for a destination wedding. It's hard to assume because I asked 3 local photographers and I got 3 very different answers. Most resorts won't charge the vendor fee but some do so definatley check your resort thread on here or ask your WC.

I used Adventure Photos for our wedding. The thing about them is that there is more than 1 photographer. What I did was request a portfolio of all their photographer's work who worked at our specific resort. Looked thru all of the weddings and then picked the work I liked the best and requested that photographer. I did extensive research for mine as I felt 'second class' using a resort photographer due to some comments on this board but at the end of the day LOVE my photos and don't regret my decision for a minute.

No matter who you choose do your research. Everyone has a different style and you need to make sure what you choose suits you. Good luck.

@@calgarybride2015 Who was the photographer you used with Adventure Photo, in case we end up going that route? Did you add onto your photography package or did you just get the one that came with your package?

@ Which photographer are you using? That sounds like a good rate!

Also, if I do approach my friend, I'll be very clear that I won't be offended if he would rather not work in order to enjoy his vacation. But I just like the idea of someone who knows us doing our photography. I feel like he might better capture our big day. And I do like his local work.

No photography wasn't included at all, that was separate. I got their 8 hour package for $1600 US which included 200 pics and a photo book. I paid an extra $100 to get all the pictures.

I used Perla Brambila (her company is CeilitoLindo Photography) from what I understand each resort has different photographers -- not sure they jump In between. That said I believe she left my resort as she has her own company, as other brides haven't been able to use her.

@@vancouverpetunia It may be a good idea to instead ask for their advice on their expertise in what to look for in a wedding photographer. If they then offer to be your photographer you can they offer to pay them or offer to cover their trip/hotel. Otherwise if you ask directly they may feel obligated to say yes and not get the opportunity to enjoy your wedding as an invited guest. A friend of ours had that experience with their hairstylist friend. They asked her if she can do the bridesmaids and her hair. Initially she had said yes to later politely decline weeks before the wedding as she really preferred to enjoy the morning as a guest. It was not a great situation for them to have been in.
