Where Do I Start - Planning Oct 15 Wedding

I have no idea where to start. I know I want a destination wedding but no idea where to start. Do I start with the location, date - is October a really bad time for a destination wedding? Should I set a date or base it on availability. What are my first steps. I'm open to almost any location with the exception of Cancun. I can't even narrow that down. Help, I have no idea where to start

A season/month is a good place to start. After you have settled on a location you can start checking on specific date availability. Most resorts have up to 2 weddings/day.

As far as October, it depends on where you want to go.... Hawaii, Mexico, Bahamas, etc...because of different rainy/hurricane/etc seasons.

After that, I'd choose a travel agent...they have traveled to a lot of places & have stayed at all kinds of resorts, so they will be a great resource. Plus, they can help you get the best rates for you & FI, and guests.

I remember being in the same place you are back in March. This site is very helpful, tons of resources, and brides (ones who have recently married and ones currently planning) are willing to offer suggestions/advice/feedback on their experiences. So, Try cruising this site more.

Also, check out the "resort reviews" section.

I hope this helps! Happy planning!

I started with doing plenty of research from locations, wedding packages, best seasons, and our realistic budget (because money can be spent very quickly).

Once you have those things down then begin making a guest list so you know if a DW is really what you would like (be mindful that not everyone will attend and if the ppl that matter the most to you can attend).

These forums have helped a lot.

Hi!

Definitely I think you should think about a budget and location first, the budget is important because different countries carry different costs and that will affect how far your budget will stretch.

Then once you have decided on a location you can think about venues, and the details, where your guests will stay. If you ever need any help or advice I am always available. :) Also, October is not necessarily a bad month to get married. I think weather wise any date in the Caribbean can bring risk of rain or storm. October actually can be a great month because it is low season, meaning low priced hotels and more available suppliers to choose from!

I wish you the best in your planning process!

Congrats! @@jennifernoel1 it seems I'm following your posts in a lot of forums haha!

Anyway I too am an October 2015 bride getting married in Jamaica.

When I first started we had 3 places in mind - DR, Jamaica and Mexico. And we also knew we wanted to do next fall in order to give people time to save and I love the fall :) And for the Caribbean it wouldn't be as hot as the summer for example.

I started by looking at resort/flight pricing for guests and wedding packages and locations. Then I narrowed it down to Jamaica bc DR and Mexico had some stuff about translating documents and ceremonies being in Spanish and I didn't want to have to do that extra work and only a few of our guests would understand the ceremony lol!

Well once I picked the location I did a lot of research on resorts mainly through reviews on here and pictures online!

It took me a while only bc I'm indecisive and I wanted to save money for us and our guests!

Happy planning!
