My mother would kill me- but I'm thinking about doing it....

I'm not sure if I would rather the beach, or there is a tour that we are going on through an underground river in the riviera maya.. "Rio secreto ".

Is anyone else doing a trash the dress? Where are you planning it? How long are you planning for the session to be?

Anyone know if I might be able to pull it off at the underground river?

The best person to decide will be your photographer. They will know the sites where you're allowed to have your session, and if it's a cenote session you want, they'll know the places you can go. Some of the cenote sites are highly connected to Mayan religious symbols, so there could very easily be restrictions on what you can and can't do. I remember the one we went to near Coba and the site had to be blessed before we went in. It took about 10 minutes before we even were allowed to walk the trail. Some of the sites are really neat.  Check your photographer's site and see if they have TTD pics on their website. Do they have TTD rates? The sessions always cost extra over and above your general photography. Plus you need to think about getting to the site in your dress, or is there somewhere to change. Once it's wet you'll need somewhere to change into regular clothes afterwards. If you get all the details worked out, what about a second dress for a TTD? If you've paid a lot of money for your dress, do you want to get it wet? Sometimes they come out perfectly from dry cleaning, but there are some fabrics that don't handle the water well.

Lots to think about! Good luck!

I didn't pay very much for my dress. I ended up ordering it from a shop in China that custom did it for 100 dollars after shipping and everything! The dress came out perfect, I just have no desire to truck it back to the states.

Were thinking of either trashing it in a photo shoot, or using the fabric to make gifts for the parents (wedding album)

Ok - now you've got my curiousity aroused. Which shop did you use? Did you know there is a whole thread here about buying knock offs? There is a lot of going back and forth about which shops are the good ones and which are a bit dodgy. How did you find out about the shop?

My mother encouraged me to check out wedding dresses on e-bay, and that they sometimes have overflow dresses from shops, and sometimes some good used ones.

dress

I found this dress- the seller "fashion20121122"

I ordered the dress around 85 dollars, and spent around 15 for shipping and handeling!! I private messaged her to ensure she got my size, she replied with "ohh! we will custom make to ensure it fits, please send your measurments to me and I will make fitted for you.

We spent the night taking my measurments, and doing a little reading to make sure we didn't go wrong anywhere.

When I got the dress- It was perfect, a silky inner layer with an outskirt of lace. I ordered a lace up to make sure that if I lose or gain weight, it wouldn't effect my ability to fit in it. The ribbon was not sewed to the dress (thank God, it didn't match ANYTHING)

Wow that's really pretty! And you got a fantastic deal! I'm looking into it but really nervous about moving ahead. Everything I'm looking at is running in the range of $1300 and $1400 so I would definitely like to try and save some money if I could.

What is "trash the dress" ??

It's a session where the bride goes in the water, or other areas and takes pictures. The dress usually ends up ruined.

I was nervous about it too, but 100 dollars isn't bad, so I gave it a shot and lucked out I guess. Good luck!
