In an offhand way, many of my friends said they didn't think they a bridal shower would be appropriate since I am having a destination wedding.... has anyone else encountered this? And, is it selfish of me to be a little upset about this? I mean, granted it is asking a lot...buuuuut, I have spent a lot of money on their weddings (shower & wedding gifts and being in the bridal party), e-parties, bridal showers, bachelorette showers, and baby showers....

My friends are the exact opposite - I wasn't going to have a shower because they have to pay to go to the wedding, but they insist on throwing me one out of tradition

I have not decided if I will be having a bridal shower yet. GREAT QUESTION. I would love to hear what everyone has to say about having a bridal shower even if you're having a destination wedding. We were thinking we probably will not have a shower, just because I feel like the guests are already spending a lot of money to come to our wedding...

My in laws insisted, but the reason I'm doing destination is because everyone is far flung! So I bet like 10 people will come, including family. Which is fine! We're nontraditional with 2 kids, so I don't even know what I'd want lol

Hi @@cfinkenbine - there are a few threads on the  bridal shower topic.

There seem to be plenty of people on both side - and some who don't want one but get one anyway! There are a lot of comments on the "to register or not to register" question as well!

My fiance's dad sort of complained but he's coming haha. He just said that it was expensive and that no one would come. I know he'll have a blast when he's there, but he's just the type of guy who thinks vacations are a waste of money. Other than that, only my fiance's friends who said that "I" picked the most expensive resort I could find. That sort of hurt my feelings because both my fiancé and I picked it and we had our reasons, but I'm over it now. Whoever wants to be there will be and I try to focus on those people and the fact that I will still be getting married with the wedding we both dreamed of

Fiance's dad was the same.  First was mad, then asked why we couldn't do it in Ontario so he could visit family, then was saying they couldn't afford it, then was mad he had to waste a week in Mexico that he didn't get to decide on, and blah blah. Never ended. He booked in the end!

I had a few complain about the cost and that Mexico is NOT that expensive. HAHA $1565 in the Mayan at a 5 star is a hot price, so ya sister find something cheaper in 2015! (or 2014 too!).

Then others who just gave their two cents on what would work for them, then said no anyways! ha!

ohhh, then the friend who said not to invite her, then was pissed when I didn't.

Seriously you can't win, so focus on the positive and those people who are happy for you!

I think that it is worth considering that when your guests arrive at your chosen resort they have that "Wow, this is wonderful!" reaction, not "oh yuck, we are staying here?" reaction...

It makes me nervous when a couple I am working with puts price and only price as their deciding issue for chosing a resort. The old adage of You get what you pay for, has some merit.. going with the cheapest just because it is the cheapest, may get you a low cost trip, but is it really what you want the guests to experience and remember about your wedding?

The point above about looking a little closer is a good one! Palace Resort may initially seem a little higher, but when each room of guests is receiving $500 to spend in on site credits for a 3 night stay, this can really make the trip more affordable and the guests are going to remember what a wonderful place it was, what a great time they had, how awesome their room was, etc.. which is really the memories you want to build!

If I can answer any questions or help anyone to find their perfect resort, just PM me!

I was struggling with people complaining about the price as it went up as the price was only for the first 30. My FI aunt gave me some good advice yesterday and just said..Focus on your wedding day. Those of that want to get there, will get there one way or another.

I really took that to heart, and honestly our "must comes" are already booked, so anyone else is just icing on the cake.

So true. This was probably why choosing the resort was so tough. Price is important but I also felt so much pressure to pick a great resort for everyone. I didn't want the weight of a crappy resort which ruined everyone's trip! You will always have someone unhappy but we can try our best.
