How do you deal with people complaining about your choice to have a destination wedding? I believe I will be picking Playacar Palace, I know it is on the more expensive side but the benefits are amazing and those room credits.... WHEW! Someone tried to tell me that there's soo many other cheaper options in Mexico. Yea that may be true but it's only by a mere hundred or so dollars with NO room credits. I love RIU Palace, but I don't like them for weddings and I wouldn't ask guests to stay there and still need an abundance of spending money. Just a little vent.

@@TheBHolders At the end of the day, you have to do what makes you happy. You can't please everyone, and the people who want to be there will find a way to make it happen.

With that said, though I loved the Iberostar Grand, I just couldn't ask my guests to pay that rate. I decided on Dreams Riviera Cancun, which is still pricey ($2100/per person/per week), but I believe you get what you pay for. People who have never been to Mexico or don't get the concept of all-inclusive don't seem to understand this!

If you're confronted with criticism (I have been a couple times...but from people who don't truly matter to me), just reply that having a destination wedding is what makes you and your fiance happy, and the resort you chose was perfect for what you wanted for you and your guests.

I went with a resort, Secrets Maroma Beach, that I'm sure a lot of people think I to expensive. I'm not a selfish person but I feel this wedding is one time I should indulge!

I don't wan to have any regrets about choosing something to make my guests happy instead of myself an my fiancé happy.

One of the most stressful factors of picking a place was trying to figure out what my guests would like....I asked my immediate family's opinion on my top 2 and they agreed with now jade bc the rooms were twice as big even tho it was a bit more. Ultimately as the bride you have to love it so you get the final say. I'm sure some people will comment to me on the price when they go to book

I've been called selfish for having one as well. It's never pleasant to hear-

I guess I'm selfish for wanting all my friends and family to have a blast in Mexico?

We're starting to notice who really does want to be there though, and we told those people that we would help them get there however we could. The process has a way of weeding out people who don't care enough to go to begin with. The more I think about it, I wouldn't want them there anyways.

Totally!!!

The way I see it, I'm kinda hoping "certain" people complain enough about this being selfish or "expensive" just so they are the ones to turn my invitation down vs me not inviting them and me coming off like the bad guy :)

That's a perfect way of thinking about it. Most of my family goes on individual family vaca yearly so the important ones won't have a problem with it...the rest can just come to a BBQ we can have when we get back lol

@@TheBHolders You bring up a good point! It's tough when close family/friends are not happy with your choice. We're having the same problem with my fiance's brother - he doesn't want to come to Mexico because he's worried about his kids being in the sun! It's ridiculous. It's just as hot here as it is in Mexico!

I'm trying to accommodate all my close friends and family because I want lots of people to come and I want everyone to be happy, but at the end of the day there's no way to please everyone! My friends and family are already complaining about the cost, the location, safety concerns, time of year, etc.

At the end of the day you and your fiance have to be happy with your choice. When you have a destination wedding you can't expect everyone to attend... even the people you THOUGHT would be attending! This is one of the big lessons I am learning!
