People Backing Out- What Percentage Of People Did You Lose?

Recommended Posts

I had my destination wedding a couple of weeks ago and I can assure you all that no matter how discouraging it might be to have people cancel, you won't be thinking about those people when you're at your wedding having the time of your life. Throughout the planning process we definitely had some disappointments over people who couldn't come or those who backed out at the last minute for reasons we didn't feel were legitimate. But out of the 80 people invited, 32 came and we have never had more fun in our entire lives. The group that came was the exact group that was meant to be there and if I could go back in time and add the people who cancelled, I would NOT do it. Things will turn out exactly as they should and you will have an incredible experience no matter what.

I'm sorry to hear that! I'm trying to stay positive and keep in mind that some people will not make it and try not to take it too hard but I think sometimes that might be easier said than done. I think that yes, as long as your closest family and friends are there it's going to be good. I guess there's always the people who come back with some BS excuse last minute and it's probably hard to look over that. Oh the drama of weddings...hahah

TRUE!! I think a DW is a lot less stressful than planning one at home though. Haveing the coordinator to take care of the little details helps, and we have the excuse of only inviting direct family/ people that we see every day to avoid "uncle frank" getting his feelings hurt. We just started planning an at home reception/cocktail party, so hopefully there will be no drama from that lol

@@BusyBee280 definitely! I'm so happy that the resort we chose we can just pay and have all the table decor already chosen and set up for us and of course everything else is so much easier to do.

I think some people will always be offended but you can't please everyone. Having a destination wedding really helps to keep your guest list in check hahah.

My friend got married in Ft Lauderdale (family & friends are from Boston) and she lives in Houston. She had her closest friends she's known for years back out at the last second (and they were the bridesmaids). She ended up not having a bridal party and is no longer speaking to some of those friends. DW definitely shows you people's true colors! Having heard about her guests backing out - I came into the planning expecting people to back out. Hopefully it won't be anyone I really can't picture getting married without! We are inviting around 60 people, so hopefully we get at least half that number actually go! But however many people end up going - I know it will be an amazing time and I can't wait to marry my best friend :)

So far we have invited around 88 people. I will be more than happy if 20 of those people show up! Actually I might freak out a little if its more than 20 because I have been very realistic since the beginning of this because we got so much push back from our families. In my head I've sort of been planning for 15-20 people!

yea the booking of the guests is the most stressful part of all this. Everything else has been fun except for that. My deposits are due in 2 weeks and so far I have 17 people booked. We had like 80 something people invited (40 something couples) but we don't expect all those people. Out of those 17 it's only family so far on both sides. We have no close friends booked yet. I feel I will be probably be disappointed. I try not to be and have more of an open mind and positive outlook but sometimes it's just hard  ya know especially when you yourself would do everything possible to be there for your friends wedding but I guess some people don't look at it that way.
