The Hardest Part Of A Destination Wedding

Recommended Posts

@ SamanthaC I don't want any strippers!! :D Though I've been told I have no say in what I want or don't want. I'm having my bachelorette here before we leave. Was hoping to have something quiet like a winery tour and lunch, not happening!!

And I am having a bridal shower as well.

How long after you get back are you having your AHR?

I can sympathize ladies, totally. We ended up being just the 2 of us for our wedding. and in the end the MOH and BM cancelled too, but only because everyone else did, and they thought they were going to end up spending more money. The way it worked out, we booked last minute and save almost $300 on the cost of the trip. Each! But it was tough. It almost split us up after almost 10 years together. Hubs was so ticked because everyone had been so enthusiastic in the beginning and they were all going. We changed our date to accommodate everyone else. In the end, it was just the 2 of us, almost on the original date that we wanted and 2 WC's as our witnesses. We had an AHR because we were upset about not having everyone in jamaica with us, but hubby wasn't onboard with that for quite a while. I had to work on him for him to agree. We are only a small group anyway because our kids are grown with kids and our parents are elderly. Family is scattered everywhere and getting on in years so we had 28 at our AHR, with a sitdown dinner. We had a DJ and everyone had a great time. It was a tough situation. I've said it before - we want everyone to be as happy for us as we are. But everyone has busy lives nowdays and with the economy, sometimes money is harder to save.

The important thing is that it's you and your FI in a beautiful place. Our resort I think took pity on us and we were treated like a king and queen. It was great.

Hang in there. It will all work out in the end. Happy planning!

Good on you and your hubby for not scratching out your destination wedding!! It must have been extremely hard for you both initially but when such happens nothing we can do as I'm now learning. Ultimately it will be you two standing there and making those promises to God and each other for life! Thank you for sharing :)

@ SamanthaC hands down to you for having a AHR, I don't have the patience to plan both!!

@ SamanthaC No AHR happening this end!!..lol.. My FI (thank God) agrees that whoever comes great because we only doing it once!

That's awesome that your FI's best friend is helping you plan the reception here, if I had a friend like that I would totally have one here. Great exchange on both your ends..

@@SamanthaC - I'm looking at AHR places too, but problem is everywhere in Toronto is so expensive! We're trying to find a place that we can get a Special Occasion Permit to bring our own booze!

No favours I don't think - I didn't even think about that haha. But we're going to try to make it more like a big party instead of a second reception. We want an open bar and dj, but we're prob going to do food stations and hors d'oeuvres instead of a sit down meal. Of course, I'm finding this is about the same cost, if not more with some caterers, than a sit down meal!

I'm going to quietly plan this now, but it will depend on our final guest count at our wedding. If we do end up getting a good number, than we'll prob just scratch the AHR.

We're going to have an uneven number of attendants. I have just 1 MOH now (there were to be 2 co-MOHs but one is the pregnant one) and he has 2 groomsmen. He worried about the unevenness too, but I can't bring myself to ask someone else just for the sake of evening out the numbers. I don't think I care enough, and i don't want to ask someone just for the sake of it.

Haha you girls are hilarious. I actually told my MOHs I wanted a stripper :D. We'll see what they come up with!

@@keezy Wow at least you both agreed to no AHR. My FI grandparents who he is really close with will not be able to attend due to health reasons so he wanted to make sure we have some sort of party so they don't feel like they missed out cause they were really upset that they wouldn't be able to make the trip.

@ SamanthaC that's more than a good enough reason to have a AHR. We don't have any grandparents alive so doing one in Punta Cana is good enough for us. When are you deciding to buy your wedding dress?
