@@meganstobo2004 Congrats & that's awesome! We actually just had another couple get engaged here in Mexico and decided they loved it so much that they're coming back to also have a destination wedding now!!! :)

Most of our couples start by narrowing down their desired location, setting a per guest budget of what they feel their guests will be comfortable with spending, selecting a month or specific week to travel (prices fluctuate based on dates so if your date is flexible you'll have the best chance at getting a great deal) and then of course choosing a resort/hotel. Go through some of the threads here on BDW for ideas and reviews. You'll find working with a travel agent will be the best person to officially get the big stuff all worked out.

Happy planning!!! :)

@@meganstobo2004 get a good travel agent it will limit a lot of hassle also depending on where you live pick somewhere that isn't too far for guests. Without our travel agent for our destination wedding April 2015 I don't know where I would be. It is very overwhelming!! Once you have a place decided that will help a lot!!!!!! We picked Dreams Tulum April 22, 2015 and I am very happy with our decision.

Congrats on your engagement and Riviera Maya has plenty of option for different budget, I would advice you to start with a travel agent, BDW is owned by good travel agent, and I would contact them.

decided on your budget, things your are looking for in a resort.  just to help narrow down your options.

@@meganstobo2004 - I felt the exact same way! (and posted something very similar not too long ago). What was most helpful to me was this site - in all seriousness, I read a lot of the "resort reviews" on this site, I then messaged brides looking at the same resorts. I even found a few users who still log in periodically to share their experiences and give advice. A travel agent is also a great resource. And lastly, read reviews on tripadvisor.com. Good luck and happy planning!

Congrats! I was at that stage about a month ago and it's definitely overwhelming. This site will really be a fantastic resource for you - I've spent way too long on here reading old threads, reviews, etc. to help narrow down what I want

Figure out what location you want first. Take a look at resorts, what they offer, the costs, the wedding packages and see if you can find reviews of other weddings there. I quickly saw that I had a "type" of wedding I was drawn to, and that narrowed down the hotel choice for me a lot. After that, it was a matter of balancing things like cost, activities, hotel amenities, etc. Definitely speak to a good TA and don't be afraid to contact a few - you'll see the quality and service definitely changes from TA to TA

Happy planning!

I am still overwhelmed...lol!  However, the women on this site have been a tremendous help with all of their useful information.

My FI decided on the location of Jamaica...so now it is up to me to decide which resort.  However, reading the reviews and timelines on this site has helped a lot.  I also have utilized tripadvisor  for reviews on the resorts.

Finding the destination was the hardest part so far. It took me a good two months. Started in Costa Rica, Dominica republic, punta Cana, Jamaica and finally decided on now sapphire in cancun Mexico!

They seemed to have the best rates for what you get for the guest rooms and it's close to the airport which was a huge plus for us since a lot of our guest will be popping in for a quick trip.

Having a flexible date saved a bunch of money on the rooms. our hotel dropped from 400-290 just by pushing it back a couple months!
