Hi everyone, I'm planning an August 2015 wedding and I'm wondering whether it will be too hot to have dinner and dancing for 5 hours outside in August!

I haven't picked a venue/resort yet as I'm still exploring all my options and comparing prices, menus, etc.

Thanks in advance!

We've only gone down in the fall, but are going this summer - I can only imagine how hot it'll be! but many of the venues have huge ceiling fans to try to keep it cooler, plus there's usually a good breeze coming off the beach.

I'd incorporate fans into your wedding planning. whether it's folded paper fans, or a program fan for the ceremony, those will be good for your guests. and a shaded ceremony location for your guests if your ceremony is outdoors would be best too. that sun can be intense! plus cold bottles of water and such.

I'll pop back over here after our trip in June and share my thoughts if noone else comments on a summer wedding.

Hello Shelikespink,

Welcome to the forum, As a wedding planner in the Riviera Maya, my advice I always give to my clients is since its august is usually hot, try to have a late ceremony like around 5:30 or 6pm when the sun is starting to set away, also if your location is at the beach site then chance of having some sea breeze are high and this would make it comfortable for everyone.

I've gone to the caribbean a couple of times in August. The weather is definitely hot and VERY humid, which only makes the heat worse. I would strongly suggest having your ceremony later in the day so that it's bearable for everyone, especially if your guests won't have shade to sit under during the ceremony. The good thing is that if it's by the beach it will be nice with the breeze. With all this said, we're planning to have our wedding in August as well! The only thing that worries me is my hair in the humidity and trying to stay out of the sun until the wedding because I burn pretty easily haha.

While I was in Cancun in August I went to an outdoor party by the beach. It was hot but the air was extremely nice and kept us cool. I'm hoping my reception will be the same :)

@@shelikespink I think so much has to do with your own personal heat tolerance. I'm originally from Toronto, Canada but now live here in Cancun and still love it being HOT HOT HOT (even while shooting all day & evening)! lol

As long as your reception starts after sunset (which it likely will) and is near the water you and your guests should have a comfortable ocean breeze keeping you cooler throughout the evening. It might also depend on how formal everyone will be dressed. If your groom, groomsmen and many of your male guests will be in long sleeves dress shirts with long pants and suit jackets they may appreciate an indoor air-conditioned reception but if you're going more "beach casual" than outside in the breeze would be perfect!

Here are a few outdoor reception examples for a little destination wedding inspiration...Happy Planning! :)

@@TinkerSofi We took the second photo during a wedding we shot at a non-resort venue called Grand Coral Beach Club. VERY private, beautiful and located in Playa del Carmen!!!

The bride and groom were staying at Grand Sunset Princess, had their ceremony in the small chapel on 5th Avenue in downtown Playa del Carmen and then held their reception at Grand Coral. Their wedding can be seen here
