Budgeting For Tips... How Much?

Recommended Posts

So...what about the resort provided Wedding Coordinator who doesn't charge a fee? What is an appropriate amount to tip?

I had no idea. I gave ours $700 peso. Someone told me they did something similar so I just did that.

I was thinking $50-100 USD, so that falls pretty much in line.  She's doing a great job so far, so I guess it'll depend on crunch time lol!  When did you tip her?  Before or after the wedding?

I forgot my tips. I had meant to ask her if tipping wait staff as a group was ok then since I forgot that I just forgot them all hahah so at the dinner I asked her and told her I would see her in the am with everything. So I tipped her the next morning.

Funny - I was just showing my fiance my budget spreadsheet and the line item for tips made his eyes bulge!

He just thinks the vendor prices are already really high, which they are. They aren't any cheaper than Chicago vendors for the most part! We can determine when we get there who has gone above-and-beyond and deserves a little more, but I told him we need to at least be prepared and have a plan! And I don't want to be dealing with it on our wedding night. That is the LAST thing I want to be thinking about.

Good point. Does the resort just pocket those vendor fees? That's a lot they make!

@@calgarybride2015 It isn't actually even the vendor fees! We're using the preferred DJ and our photographer is covering the vendor fee. But the DJ is $190 per hour and the photographer is $2,500...not exactly cheap even by Chicago standards. (Those are our only outside vendors.)

He isn't anti-tipping in general. He is from Jamaica so he likes to support Jamaicans and the Jamaican economy, but that also means he knows how far an American dollar goes in Jamaica, so he just has more modest dollar amounts in mind than what I had in the budget :)
