Why did some people need to book the rooms out for their guests and some didn't? Is it only if you book directly with the hotel? Or because we booked so early? We have 30 seats saved for 90 days but we had 65 booked.  Nobody had a problem getting a seat or their room category. But like I said - we booked over a year in advance so that might be why.

Okay, so we have until the 10th to decide if we are going to pre-pay deposits or not.

We are going to pay the $300 like you all said to block the first 15 rooms for 90 days.

The reason our TA is suggesting we pre-pay for our 'yes' guests is because Transat doesn't have enough rooms in their allotment for the 15 rooms included in the wed 30 promo.

I can't be the only one getting this advice, can I?!

Very confusing.

@@Smellsey for us it was because AF sold out of Deluxe Rooms which is room type and price quote we had held. If Deluxe Rooms become available we should be able to get them at the price quoted with the taxes being a little more - I think. Our issue was more about availability at the hotel not with the seats with Transat - my TA said that getting the flight is no problem. We booked 14 months in advance but I think my week became really popular somewhere within our 90 days. Luckily pretty much all of our guests who want to come have booked already. Right now if we have a couple more people who want to come, I don't feel too bad if they can't get the price we quoted as they had 90 days to put down a deposit and had several reminders from me. Can you see my A-type personality coming through - lol! ;)

@@ashhtayy I'm assuming that your TA is suggesting that because the week you are booking for is already selling out. That's my only guess of why she would want you to pre-pay for everyone because she's worried your guests might not get a room you 'hold' it for them. Tough call - it's hard to get yes or no answers right away. I know how hard it was just to try and get guests to put down deposits within 90 days.

I'm no expert but if you block a certain amount of rooms I thought they can't give then to anyone else until your 90 days are over. Maybe double check with your TA about this. I would be a bit skeptical of paying deposits for guests when I don't event know who's coming. Usually deposits are non refundable and depending on the company they could refuse to apply that credit to your own trips. In other words, you might end up losing money if not everyone books. Id make sure to ask what happens if that's the case.

I would still urge your guests you pay their deposits ASAP given that the hotel is running low on rooms, just to make sure they get a spot. Maybe what she meant is that they don't have 15 rooms available but if that's the case then there's not much you can do, whether you pay all the deposits upfront or not

Yah we did not have to pay for anyone which was nice. We have 55 people booked and then I have 6 renting a house down there. I don't feel bad for the people either - they didn't book in the 90 days which I thought was a lot of time for $200 a person. We booked... 13 months in advance too. We are getting married the same week so that may be why rooms are limited lol!

@@Smellsey - haha so true, we're creating the high demand and limited availability. oops! Between the two of us, most of the resort will be Canadian!  :)

@@ashhtayy just found the 'Attrition' clause in my contract (hopefully this helps): "60 days or more prior to departure dates, 20% of the passengers may be released. The deposit will be applied as payment to the file. Group minimum of 10 adult passengers must be maintained"

This is something to consider if you are thinking about putting down deposits for some of your guests.

My TA is seeing rooms available, just not a TON of rooms. She thinks that the resort may not have released the full availability yet...does that make sense knowing that we are booking so far out?

@@snswedding2016 - I do not understand the 'Attrition' clause; I hope I am not the only one. Is that saying that for the deposits we put down and our guests, if upto 20% don't pull through, our file gets to kep the $150 times however many peopel back out?

Our guest list is approximately 175 and we are only considering putting the deposit down for our absolute 'yes' group - our parents, siblings, closest family and friends (bridal party). Realistically they will pay their deposit right away regardless so all this worry may be for nothing.

Thanks for listening (reading) lol

@@ashhtayy I just called my TA to clarify the details of the attrition clause. She did say to double check with your TA as everyone works a little differently and the contracts may have differently clauses but generally you will have an Attrition clause when dealing with Air Transat. So you can release up to 20% of the seats you a holding up to 60 days prior. With the 30 seats you can release 6. If you do release 6, those deposits your guests have paid can be applied to your balance or you can refund your guests. If you release more than that, the deposits and/or final payments (if it is after the final payment date) are non-refundable.

If you have put down additional deposits for extra packages beyond the 15 rooms/30 seats and then have to release then release them....you are on the hook for the money! My TA said that depending how many additional packages you're holding outside of the 15 rooms/30 seats the additional deposit amount can get quite expensive if you want to hold a lot of extra rooms.

She recommended really going over all the details with your TA - what you would be on the hook for if you are releasing inventory.

I also think you TA is saying that the full availability may not be showing because there may be other brides holding inventory and will release rooms once their 90 days are up.

I hoped that helps and it isn't too convoluted!

that's what we're doing. We wanted the sky deck but we couldn't do that and one of the memorable moment packages for the ceremony.
