Remembering Lost Love Ones

Recommended Posts

I've seen this thread pop up and haven't been brave enough to click on it until now, but I'm glad I did. I lost my mom at 60 in February of this year and the wedding planning sure makes it extra difficult. Neither my stepmom nor my FMIL are very motherly so neither one of them comes close to filling the mother-of-the-bride void.

I like the idea of leaving the empty chair. I've never heard that and I might do it - I just may not be able to look at it during the ceremony or I won't make it through :(

I am in such a messed up situation. My fiance's family has many deaths due to family members' DUIs...so mentioning lost ones would be too emotional for his side. However, my family is the exact opposite. They died from old age and I totally want to honor my granny and aunties by name. I don't want to forgo the tribute all together because I want to recognize the loved ones who are watching from above. The locket idea will work for me but is it selfish to just acknowledge my side especially if he said, don't do it for his side. And I certainly don't want the NLAWS mad at me over a slight...

I'll probably sound harsh but it's your family and you have every right to honor them. I understand how tough it is for him so find some middle ground. If he doesn't want a charm with a visible picture maybe find a locket where you can't see a picture -- thought process is no one would know exactly what is it other than a charm. But if you want to honor them I feel you should.

Thanks Kim! I needed to hear that! I got several closed lockets from Ebay when we got engaged...with this purpose in mind. I may be able to just write their names rather than a photo and that may be a smooth middle ground. Thanks love!

Condolences to all who have lost loved ones, young or old. I will be remembering my lost loved ones with a photo collage table at the reception. I love the empty chair idea but unfortunately between FI and myself we have lost too many loved ones to leave empty chairs for each. Or are you supposed to do just one? not sure. I will also have a small heart made out of my grandfathers shirt sewn into my dress. It wont be visible, just something between him and I. :)

My dad passed away a few years back so I bought two little frames and put his photo in them.  I am wearing them on the backs of my sandals so he can "walk me down the isle".  Also, since I won't have a father daughter dance and my mom feels funny dancing with me at the wedding I am going to make a video collage of me and my mom to Carrie Underwood's a song for mama and play that for my mom.
