@@salutvie you will need the flights more than a catamaran cruise! Plus your guest will have a better experience if they are able to have group flight and make payments towards everything. Take the photo or spa credit and use it towards makeup and hair OR you can gift the spa credit to your bridal party instead of coming out of the pocket for gifts...If you have a good relationship with your agent, I'd say do it! You will need the comfort of working with someone you can count on.

I'm glad we can help you with these little tid bits, boy do they matter later!!!

@@ChiTiff the $250 credit was through my travel agent (DW)

Here are the specifications for the "Unlimited Events"

Promotion:       (combinable with Bride & Groom Stay Free Promotion)

·         10-15 rooms – Two hour cocktail party (1) per stay

·         16-20 rooms – Three course dinner (1) per stay

·         21 rooms or more – Two hour cocktail event and Three course dinner/lunch event (1) per Day

·         50 rooms or more - Unlimited private events daily

Also! Apparently you cannot have a ceremony on Friday, Saturday or Sunday if you want to qualify.

I'm still getting details on what exactly is free for these "private events". I know that they have a set catering menu, but we have no issue using it. I'm just curious what the limitations are for this. I'm sure they exist!

@rtscent -- THANK YOU! I really am glad to have found you ladies. This whole thing is a bit daunting and planning so far ahead has me thinking...what if I'm missing something? Is it stupid to plan so far out? We have the contract in hand....we just need to bite the bullet and sign it but I'm really worried about the pricing at GRM for next year as it looks like they're telling us they'll be unable to honor a lot of the deals from this year because they're considering "opening promos". So those great rates you are seeing now, for us in August 2016, it's looking like they're asking closer to $900 per person for 3 nights/4 days! That's just insane! But if we can get all these extra kickbacks/freebies, I'm hoping I'll have the opportunity to offset some of these for our guests. It's really only the people with families that are going to have the biggest hit, but I want to minimize it as much as possible, but I'm not sure I'm covering all possible bases!

@@salutvie the free events promo, you will still have to pay for any decorations, music, speakers for your own music, candles, lighting etc.

I'm using my free events promo for my welcome lunch, rehearsal dinner & cocktails afterwards "white party", and our wedding reception. My wedding is on Monday May 25th, so this worked for me. I was going to have a farewell brunch with my free events but decided to cancel, I didn't want to have too many events and overwhelm my guests.

So the free events does come in handy. Just know that you can only pick 1 food item for the main course, if you allow 2 options, you have to pay $5/person. For example, I have 2 options for my wedding reception (fish and steak) so I have to pay about $250 for food altogether, which still isn't bad....

I like the free events promo, b/c you can have all the events you really want, just be conscientious of your guests and their time.

@@salutvie If you lock it in now, can they honor the cheaper rates per person? My rate is $698/person 3 nights / 4 days. Maybe if you can get a good deal on flights to keep everything under $1300 total per person that won't be that bad, and if your guest have over a year to make payments then they cannot complain! If you give notice, then there is no reason for them to say you're being unreasonable.

@@rtscent - For now, they won't :( We even agreed to sign in like a couple of days, and we were only able to knock it down $50 (so from $900 to $850) and they told our agent that the rates they're offering now for 2015 were part of the "opening special". I guess they're getting so dang popular that they're not playing ball?

I *am* having my agent keep a close eye to negotiate for lower rates even after we lock in. But GAH. It's kind of nervewracking.

On the plus side, if my guests stay without kids at EDR, it still counts for our promotions and EDR is significantly cheaper. It's honestly probably where FH and I will stay.

Can I ask how you did the room blocks for yours? I really hate the idea of families being charged practically double but the only other hotel I would even contemplate is Dreams Tulum (which is currently offering a up to 2 kids stay free with adults promo) and it doesn't look like they're offering the same kind of bennies we get here for private events and stuff. Speaking of, any size limitations you can think of that they're warning you about on these private events?

PS I LOVED your etsy pomanders, brilliant idea! I think we might have to go that route too!

@@salutvie The only limitation to the amount of people is the free group reservation that they throw in that is not apart of the free private events promo. That free group reservation is good for up to 40 people so just use that for your rehearsal dinner or farewell brunch since not all your guest may or may not be present for that

I'm using my free group reservation as my welcome lunch event and I will have several guests that won't be in town yet or can't make this event so I should be okay with that 40 person Max

When I signed my contract I just blocked the minimum required which was 10 rooms so I wouldn't be stuck with potentially paying the full deposit in case all of my guess didn't pay on time. By the time The deposit was due I had over 21 rooms booked so I was good. Today I'm at about 35 rooms paid in full and they all are at generations. You can split your room block between GRM and EDR that has seem to work out just fine for some of the past bride on this board.

@@salutvie I actually didn't have a room block, and that made things a lot easier on me because I wasn't on the hook for a bunch of rooms if a lot of people didn't end up coming.  The way my TA did it was by requiring a $50 deposit to reserve a room for each guest.  We had our guests call her to set that up.   I also found it was a good way to get a confirmation about who was actually coming (even though a few people cancelled after paying deposits), and our guests were able to get the best rates available by doing it this way.  You can still get the free unlimited events by doing it this way as well, they just aren't technically marked as free until you hit the required number of rooms.

You may want to also check out the Royalton http://www.royaltonresorts.com/riviera-cancun It just opened in March, and they may have better promotions available.  It looks super nice (and allows families), we seriously considered it but decided the opening date was too close to our wedding to feel comfortable.

Hi everyone! I've been creeping around this website for awhile but decided it was finally time to actually post something. We just reserved Generations Riviera for our April 2016 wedding, woohoo!

Is anyone attending the BDR later this month (April 26-29)?
