Excellence Riviera Vs. Secrets Silversands- Thoughts?

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies- I have finally narrowed down April 2015 for my wedding! YAY! Now to decide on the resort... My TOP choice would be The Royal in Playa del Carmen hands down. However, the prices are a little pricey for that resort and I'm trying to be mindful of my guests. I am considering Excellence Riviera Cancun and Secrets Silversands as alternatives. I've heard good things and they actually priced a little lower.

Here is what I've read/gathered this far. If anyone has viisted these resorts or considered these themselves, I'd love to hear you opinion!

ERC

Pros- decent price, wedding packages seem to be reasonable, fun resort with good night life, no towel cards to hassle with, no reservations required for the restaurants, modern/nice rooms

Cons- los of seaweed on the beach, enforced dress code at restaurants (could be good or bad)

SSS

Pros- a little more private, new/modern rooms,

Cons- rocky beach, not a lot of reviews to read

Thanks for your help!

Hi!

I spent a lot of time debating between Excellence and Secrets Maroma Beach. I ended up picking Secrets.

For us the most important thug was the beach and I just really don't want to deal with the seaweed that I kept hearing about at Excellence.

The other thing was the outside vendor fee is high at Excellence and at Secrets it's $100/vendor.

Good luck!! I'm confident either resort would be an awesome place!

Happy planning!

Hello, TA Wendy here... Both of these resorts are wonderful. Excellence Riviera Cancun does have wonderful rooms, great selection of restaurants and wonderful evening shows. Plus if it is a factor for anyone, they have full size bottles of alcohol stocked in the rooms. I especially love their swim out rooms.. wonderful for hanging out, or having room service breakfast in your own little private garden and then dipping right into the pool.

Secrets, being part of AM resorts, may have a bit more generous amenity program offered for groups.. they typically offer benefits such as upgrades, and comp nights beginning with the 6th room... so that can be a big help.

Excellence generally does not offer amenities until your room count is higher.

Both are great properties with a lot going for them.

Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you about booking your group.

Best wishes,

TA Wendy

I recently stayed at the Excellence, I actually got engaged there. It's a gorgeous, fabulous resort. The seaweed to me wasn't really an issue. It depends on the day. Some days there was some seaweed and some days there wasn't anything.

I too debated between these two resort and I ended up going with Secrets Silversands. My wedding is there Dec. 2014. I mainly chose it because they can handle my size of a wedding (50-100) people. They also offer a lot more options of places to hold events, welcome cocktail party, reception, wedding etc.

So far I'm really happy with my choice and Lizette the wedding planner has been awesome to work with! Either way both resorts are amazing and you will have a wonderful wedding!

  • 1 month later...

I am getting married Memorial Day weekend 2014 and am looking for any other brides that are/did consider Silversands... any help is appreciated. I am trying to determine the difference between the beach gazebo and doing the wedding ON the beach (extra charge there and not sure if it is worth it, we're on a budget).

Also, I wanted to share a GREAT FIND!!! I have been researching photographers for a couple months and came across an AMAZING one that a friend of mine also used - she got married at Secrets Maroma - he is FANTASTIC and his prices are comparable to others with WAY more attention to detail, from what I can tell. if you're interested in checking him out, he is very responsive and professional!

Apprently he will do Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Riviera Maya - hope this is helpful!!!!

I'm a Secrets Silversands bride getting married 12.12.14. I haven't been to the resort yet, I'm planning a visit late summer. But I've done tons of research and decided on the beach wedding. We're going to have a large wedding and love the thought of getting married with our toes in the sand. I've seen some gazebo wedding pictures and it looks equally pretty!
