Mother Of The Groom Attire

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just wondering what everyone is having the mother of the groom where? I was going to put my mom in the same color as my bridesmaids. Not sure what to do about the mother of the groom. My colors are coral and turqouise. Should she wear turquoise? Or just anything she wants?

I let my MIL purchase her own dress. She has a few and I don't think has even decided between them. She has one I really love and am hoping she will be able to wear, however, she said its a bit small and I don't have high hopes for it.

My colors are fuchsia and navy blue. I was thinking about having my mom and his mom wear navy blue and having my sisters wear fuchsia. I am not sure how to even ask his mom if she wants to go dress shopping with me or if she will wear navy blue. She lives 6 hours from us, so it would be a whole trip if we did go dress shopping for her together.

Wow you girls are a lot nicer than I was! haha My color was navy/ight blue and I asked my MIL NOT to wear navy. I didn't want her or my mother matching my girls. The mothers picked their own dresses, my mother wore a black/fushia dress and MIL wore a green/teal flower design dress. Both looked nice!

I think because we are not having a wedding party it just makes it look nice if the mother's are wearing the same color. I saw a picture of it while researching wedding photographers and it looked great! And it's nice for the staff of your resort to be able to easily pick them out and make sure they are taken care of.

Very good point! I didn't think of that, if there is no wedding party. I'm sure that will look nice!

My mil didn't even consult me...which I was kinda annoyed by.  Even my stepMIL asked me what she should wear.  She then picked out a few dresses and asked me which one I like best.  we ended up favoring the same dress.

Hi @@liz24

Congrats!

Traditional etiquette is the mother of the bride should select her dress & color first, and then the mother of the groom should select her dress after the Mother of the Bride in similar formality, length etc but a different color. The mother of the bride dress sometimes is similar to the bridesmaids dresses in color.  The "mothers" dresses should complement each other.

This is all just traditional- it's your wedding, so do whatever you like and what works best for you!

I stupidly told my MIL to be that she can wear any color dress that she wants. I was trying to  make it easy for her. She is apparently wearing pants and a blouse….couldn't tell you what color or what any of it looks like b/c she hasn't consulted me at all. So be careful with giving too much freedom! It has totally back fired on me :( I wish that I had been more specific.

Good luck! :)
