Anyone Else Considering Not Having Their Ceremony On The Beach?

Recommended Posts

Ladies,

Okay.... so I need some consoling... The resorts I've been considering offer locations OTHER than the beach for ceremonies. Yes, you can get married on the beach, but they also let you get married in garden settings, and indoor settings, restaurants and even your room!!! Not sure how feel about a restaurant setting, unless it were raining. (which mostly they use as a rain contingency location) Anyway, some of the garden settings and semi indoor locations (rooms with only 3 walls)are really pretty and have paved floors. Which by the way is why this option is so appealing- it solves my shoe dilemma!  So I have to ask...

Am I crazy for wanting to get married at a tropical resort but not on the beach, just so I can wear a great pair of shoes?

Oh btw.. wearing shoes is not the only reason, it's just the primary reason. I think ( based on the website photos) that the greenery will make a fantastic backdrop for photos..

Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

I'm going with the beach.  BUT, I have always dreamed of getting marired on a tropical beach barefoot / in flip flops.

BUT, it's your wedding and do whatever you want!!  If you wanna wear those awesome shoes, do it!

There is no law that says if you're going to a tropical destination that you have to get married on the beach! Do what makes you happy and makes you comfortable! I got married in Jamaica and our gazebo was right on the beach, so it solved the problem! lol I really didn't want my dress full of sand, or sand in my toes, but that's just me! I had beautiful sandals that I wanted to wear, so yes, I was selfish about shoes too!!

Congrats and happy planning!!

I'm getting married on the Pergola at my resort, it overlooks the beach but it's under neath something... and it's not crazy to get married somewhere tropical and not have it on the beach.. you have to consider the wind.. sand blowing, messy hair for pics? And the garden that overlooks the ocean, etc is always gorgeous! I too was a little hesitant about the whole shoe thing bc i want to wear barefoot sandals bc of the whole beach wedding thing.. but with my dress, i feel like heals are necessary AND since i'm not doing it on the beach, it's kind of weird walking barefoot on pavement! So torn! ahhhhhh so I guess ultimately it's whatever you're most comfortable with. Not to mention, you're going to be on the beach your entire stay, so you can probably live without it for the whole 20 mins that the ceremony takes, lol

FH and I are not doing it on the beach because everyone gets so sandy, it's messy, etc. You're basically asking people to dress up but then telling them to put flip flops on, plus it gets extremely windy. We both loved the idea of getting married by the beach somewhere hot. We're picking a venue outside, by the beach but not on the sand, if that makes sense :)

At the end of the day, it's your wedding and whatever is going to help you relax and enjoy your event is what is most important.  Some other aspects to consider are: the chance that weather (rain, strong wind) could impact the ability to have the ceremony on the beach or impact the comfort or safety of you or your guests.  So, it's always a good idea to have a "Plan B" even if the beach ceremony is Plan A.

Happy Planning!

You are not crazy at all! We got married in the gardens, our resort was beautiful, the beach was amazing, but we chose the gardens for the ceremony.

There were a bunch of reasons we chose garden over beach - the beach would be windy, our guests wouldn't be able to hear anything that was said, chairs would not be set up on the beach for our 45 guests, we wouldn't be able to have music on the beach (no speakers or cords or a mic) plus you cannot control the beachgoers and gawkers, the gross men in speedos walking into the line of sight for photos or anyone swimming behind you.

The garden was much easier to control the people watching, it was quiet, shady, semi private, we had chairs and more decorations than the beach offerred, we had our own music, and even though we were told we would have a mic for our vows, we didn't. But the gardens were perfect and beautiful and just what we wanted, we are very happy with our pictures. Plus, you can go to the beach after and take pictures, so you get the best of both worlds!

Hope this helps you! If you'd like to see some pics, PM me and I'll happily send some :)

I'm not getting married on the beach either! I didn't want any looky-loos and didn't want to get sandy. We are having our wedding on a terrace over looking the beach, with the ocean as our back drop.

Do what you want! Wearing great shoes is a valid excuse if you ask me.

Thank you ladies soooo much! I do feel better... I really am a shoestinista!...Plus I never ever even thought about the wind and the "Looky Loos and in speedos no doubt!! Ewwwww! And with my luck I'll end up with a zillion photos of them standing there with their hands on their hips with hairy pot bellies in  jungle print speedos!  :D
