Rain Backup Options, Is This Reasonable

Recommended Posts

Hi to all, newbie here. We are looking to book our wedding in Cancun/Riviera Maya/Playa region for sometime in December. We are close to chosing one of few hôtels but response is slow...

Our question is, do any hôtels offer a backup DAY in case of rain instead of backup being indoors.

In case we Wake up on the morning off and it looks like it will rain all day, would it be reasonable to expect that they will accomodate you to another day as long as they have the space?

thx

Hello Se001,

We are independent wedding planners in the Rivera Maya, Welcome to the forum and just wanted to advice you that in almost all resort their back up for rain is their ballrooms.  Usually all resort have a policy to answer emails within 72 hours.

Some resort have partly covered areas where they could host the ceremony but it all depends on how strong the rain and wind is on that day.

Keep in mind that when you have a wedding at hotel, many vendors are involved in your wedding so, it maybe that the resort is open for you for a different day but then maybe your photographer is booked else where for a different wedding. In short comes rain or sunshine your wedding would be on the date you have booked and it would be everything you wanted and more!

In all the reading I've done on this site, that's the one thing I've never seen. A back up plan yes for a covered venue, but never a backup plan for another day. I'd be surprised if that's something they could do given travel plans, other weddings, etc. I will also admit though, that I haven't seen much in the way of posts where someone has actually had to take the backup plan for their wedding. Tammy has it exactly right (and she's the expert!). Check with the resort and ask what their rain plan is. Being anywhere in Mexico or the Caribbean, they will have one. If I remember our backup plan was written into the information that the resort sent to us.
