Hi @@ng2015 ! I just stumbled across Azul Beach in my research for a destination wedding and it looks amazing! I am also looking at Moon and Beach Palace, and Dreams Riviera Cancun. Azul Beach seems very affordable for the guests, and they also seem to have very generous wedding packages. I would be going with the complimentary wedding package, and then adding everything on. Aparently, if you do a reception dinner on the beach, it ranges from $14-30 per person, which includes EVERYTHING - dinner, drinks, tables, chairs, set up fee, etc. A lot of the other resorts nickel and dime you for all of that stuff. I went on Azul Beach's website and got on the live chat feature, and chatted for a half hour with one of their wedding planners, and got such great information!

How far along in the planning process are you? And have you decided on a date? Also - do you know about how many people you wil have?

Here are the links that really helped me!

Hi @@smhvb5

Congratulations to you! And thank you so much for the links and information!! I've booked my wedding at Azul Beach for next January so i'm excited :) We want to do the Sky Wedding so that's an extra fee and would supersede the free wedding they offer... but as far as food goes everything sounds great there. We might go with the family style so that we can give our guests more than just one option to eat. We're not 100% sure yet though.  How about you?

Hi brides! Congratulations to you all. I am getting married in Azul Beach this August and very excited about it! Just a thought for you to consider, there are a lot of add ups! Specially if you have over 24 guests and considering decoration. The ~30 per guest on the beach assumes no decoration at all, and once you do the math with the Karisma prices, there is a significant price involved. Also, you do need to make sure you like what Lomas has to offer, cause vendor fees are ridiculous, and are per day.

For example, if you have an external photographer and another company for a booth in the same day, you pay 2 vendor fees (800 each, so 1600).. and if your vendor is coming twice (lets say, Friday for rehearsal dinner, saturday for wedding), its also charged by 2. We are paying for our photographer to stay in the hotel for 3 nights as a result, it cost us 1200 and we have them for more than a day. Also, for anything you want to bring yourself, there is a vendor fee. In a nutshell, its best to make sure you are ok with doing everything through Lomas and paying a premium.

Just mentioning as these charges came in as a surprise to many of the 2014 brides. I have made peace with it as we had a very flexible budget, and i just wanted to have a wedding in the area, but it is something to consider. We are already around 20K including photographer for a 50 person wedding, but i am still not considering some extras that might come in.

Best of lucks!

Beware of Karisma resorts! they are king of nickel and diming!!!

You should check out my blog under Peacock wedding.  My last entry talks about all the things ive been dealing with while trying to plan this wedding.

I am extremely disappointed thus far.  All the reviews are in agreement with what ive said...but they do say once you are there you are in good hands.  My issue is I want to be taken care of thru the whole planning process...the same way I would be if I were at home.

Ive even taken my concerns to corporate.  I emailed them twice.  Not sure the date on the first one but its been 11 days since the last.

Azul beach is a serious rip off!!! I am paying for the pearl wedding package? $950- which includes white linens, chair covers, etc.

To rent the items in color its $4+.  so i found the items online much cheaper and wanted to bring them.  the hotel wants to charge me up to $5 per person to set up the items!!! the things i would like to bring are the same items they will be setting out anyway! only in color!  How do they justify that? Not to mention if I do a private banquet, I am paying an additional per person charge!

Azul is killing pretty much every wedding dream.  I chose destination bc its supposed to be more affordable...but with all the charges/fees etc. it keeps adding up! No matter how i try to save money once were down there...Azul has some sort of policy that wont allow it any other way but theirs.

im 2 months away and nothing is done...just typing this im practically in tears. i hate this resort.

My fiance and I got engaged on NYE and have finally found a hotel. We decided on Azul Beach for Feb. 2015! We are still ironing out the specific dates but it's looking like late Feb into the first week of March :)  We are having an at-home reception and are paying for all of this ourselves so we are only doing a ceremony and the semi-private dinner afterward and plan on partying with friends after dinner either at the tequila bar or out on the town. I don't see the point in paying extra for a "private" reception when we would be drinking alcohol and eating food that is already included in the hotel rate if we were eating in one of the restaurants.... In order to cut costs, I also plan on possibly picking up outside flowers myself or bringing real touch ones with me. I know a lot of people have commented on the resorts fee to set up the decorations you bring yourself but I saw in someone's planning journal for Azul Sensatori that paying the fee to have the decorations put up is still cheaper than using some of the hotel's decorations so I think I'm going that route. I also don't plan on using flowers in any of the decorations other than for the bouquets and plan on using starfish or shells of some sort instead. I'm so excited, just don't want to wait a year now!

Also, (depends on the cost) I am considering renting a catamaran for a couple hours for our guests or possibly doing the s'more party on the beach (has anyone heard of this? I saw it on a post) I inquired with Lomas about it yesterday but haven't gotten a quote yet, the s'more party may not even be doable depending on the cost but I thought it would be a cool welcome party. Otherwise, we will do our own informal welcome cocktail party at one of the bars.

@@KaraEbeth

i am doing both the Catamaran and the Smores party.

For the first one, we are doing a "free up to 40 people" promotion, and paying for drinks. The cost by person for domestic open bar is $20 per person for two hours. Not cheap, but i really wanted to do the boat.

The Smores party seems pretty cool as a Welcome Cocktail, and it lasts a couple of hours at sunset (18:00 to 20:00)... all the extras are a bit much, but we dont think we needed. It includes the open bar and the bonfire. Cost is $16 per person.

Best!
