My fiance and I want an early October wedding, but getting a nice video is VERY important to us because we both majored in film and broadcasting in college  :)

Problem is -- our wedding budget is already stretched to the MAX. So I'm wondering if ya'll think a wedding video is really that important? I know people will take video on their phone....but I'll probably never see it :/ Help me by sharing your opinion!

Hello! I think a wedding video is great to have, however, I've heard most people say they watch it once and then it collects dust for 10 years. But it sounds like a video is extremely important to you, especially given your backgrounds. Maybe you could compromise elsewhere in your budget to free up some funds for a videographer? Or, you must know people who are experts in this field, maybe you could bribe them or twist their arm in doing it for a small fee or a case of beer or something? Butter up some old classmates! :)

I am getting a video because my sister & several friends who opted not to do it regretted it. Both they and friends who did get a video all say the day went so fast that a video is great for helping them relive the day and seeing lots of little things they totally missed or were unaware of.

A few say they also watch it when they get in a big fight with their hubby - it helps take them back to that day & remember why they said "yes" etc..so I figure having it on hand for this purpose also can't hurt :)

As for your guests who film the day, you may be surprised. I think someone will definitely post it online - especially if they are also film & broadcasting friends. I work in broadcasting & my colleagues are really into photography & film making and always share their pics and flicks from everything we attend (showers, birthday dinners/office parties, weddings and even work trips).

@@ThisYearsGirl27 I'm getting a video for the people who can not come and just in case I want to watch it one day :)  it is not as important as pictures are to me (I'm bringing my photographers with me) so we are just using the resort for the video and I belive its around $100

I am in the same boat.  Part of me really wants the video.  Its a keepsake that I would like my daughter to see when she's older.  but....then theres the budget.  my resort also has an extravagant outside vendor fee & the approved video ppl are over priced and the work prob not so good.

Soooo I dunno at this point.

Like girl in the city said her friends regretted... I may also regret it.

Look at weddingmix as a good alternative to the traditional videographer.  Here is the link with all the info and packages start at $99.00 http://www.storymixmedia.com/weddings/.  They are also having a contest right now for a free package.  This is what i'm going to use to get a video of the whole wedding weekend.

My fiance and I just decided to add this to our budget and signed a contract last week for our Feb 27 wedding.  I did talk to quite a few of my friends and all said they wish they had done it, or they had done and were so glad they did.  Not one person I talked to regretted hiring the videographer or felt like it was money wasted.  Given that both my fiance and I are pretty sentimental people, we figured spending money (even if it put us a little over budget) on a keepsake that we will have forever was worth it.

That being said, the reason I even started thinking about it was because we came in quite a bit under budget on a few other categories and also my mom wanted me to do it bad enough she is going to help pay for part of it.  We also thought it would be nice to share with our grandparents that recently had to cancel their travel plans due to health issues.

@@NJBride2014 Thanks for the tip! I just checked the WeddingMix site out and it seems to be a really awesome deal for something that's so important to me and my fiance. I also like how it lets your get clips/pictures of stuff from dress fitting, to the wedding weekend, to the honeymoon.

I'm discussing it with the fiance tonight :) I'll let you guys know!

No problem @@ThisYearsGirl27 I'm adding all sorts of stuff to the wedding video my engagment pics, bridal shower, wedding dress shopping, bach parties, wedding weekend and honeymoon.  I love that you can add a little of everything and really get to relive the whole process.  You can also share the app with friends and family and have them film at events and share with you their clips and photos so you can get stuff you might miss.
