Hopeful Riviera Maya Bride, Need Some Input Please!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm completely new to this site. My fiancé and I are in the beginning stages of planning a destination wedding, shooting for the Gran Porto real in playa del Carmen. We were originally aiming for November 2014 and have a group of about 30 on board and were planning to book this week. However we are now considering January 2015 for a few reasons but no rate info is available yet and according to our travel agent, she won't be able to give us flight/hotel rates until around March. I realize it will probably be more expensive in January and if it's too much more, that would be a no go and we'd stick with November. However, waiting that much longer to book for November , the rates will probably only go up. I'm lost as to what is a good choice right now. Anyone have an idea how January rates in this area might compare to November rates?? Thank you!!!

it will be a lot cheaper in November than January! not sure where you're travelling from, but November is considered low season, January is prime travel time. our original wedding date was November and it was dirt cheap. we got a price out of Toronto to Jamaica (I know it's not Mexico but Mexico is always cheaper) of $1250 per person all in. we ended up changing our plans and got married in October instead and actually paid $978 all in. I was looking at last minute vacations yesterday to Mexico, and I was very surprised by what the rates still are even for last minute. we have never paid more than $1,000 for any one week all inclusive vacation with taxes but to stick to what we normally book, we would be paying at least $1400 right now and that's booking to leave in the next 2 weeks or so. with the forum I worked with for my wedding in Jamaica, I know there were people paying close to $2000 per person for a January wedding. I know it depends on the resort and so on, but no matter what your rates will be higher in January. good luck! hope that helps.

I agree with @@acw271011 re November being cheaper. We bounced around different date options and our TA told us that she found November and December (excluding Christmas/New Year's) to be the cheapest times to go to Mexico. She also suggested "shoulder periods".  These are times that fall outside of/in between peak travel weeks/weekends.  For example, we were initially thinking of getting married on 2-14-15 since it fell on a U.S. long holiday weekend, but she told us that's the 2nd most expensive weekend. We then looked at dates right before that and right after and the air/hotel costs dropped by 1/2!

i was totally in your shoes in December!.. dpending on what costs you are talking about ... for example our WC for the Gran Caribe told us the more in advanced you book your rooms the least expensive they would be.. so the rates of the rooms wouldnt fluctuate as much.

The plabne tickets do go up in Jan :( but its not SOOOOOO much. At the end we had to make a decision on what its really gonna work FOR US. trust me the people that want to attend your wedding would not mind a $80-$100 difference to ticket prices. They told us that November is just the end of hurricane season and I got nervous.. even though basically any month can rain, they told us that is less likely to have that much rain in Feb/March...

We considered spring break and also valentines because as @@girlinthecity97 said its VERY expensive the weekend of valentines so we went with Feb 28th 2015. and set the wedding date :) Lets hope for the best! :)
