Feb Or April For A Wedding In Mexico?

Recommended Posts

Hello- I am recently engaged (November 2013) and we know we want a destination wedding!! Now the hard part.... picking a resort and a date!! We want to give our guests a heads up of the date well in advance so they have time to plan for it. We believe we have narrowed it down to The Royal Playa del Carmen resort. Now for the date.... We are considering either February or April 2015 for our wedding. I have read numerous sites about prices and weather but we still can't decide! Ultimately, we want to avoid "spring breakers" and super busy seasons! We are mindful of the cost to our guests so we are also trying to avoid the high season. We have targeted the following dates: Saturday, February 14; Friday, February 20; Friday, April 10; or Friday, April 17th.

We are afraid that if we have it in February that we might run into Spring Breakers. I have also read that February can be considered part of the high season. However, the plus side of February is that most people are ready to escape the cold winter weather!

I have read that April is great for weather. However, Easter falls on April 5, 2015. Our guests would likely arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday the week after Easter. I'm not sure if the prices will still be high at this time due to the holiday or if the resorts slow down (and thus prices decline) during this time. If we have to, we are considering pushing it out to April 17 but also want to avoid it getting too warm.

I do like the sun and prefer the water be nice enought to swim in! However, I don't want everyone sweating profusely during the wedding and being uncomfortable as I do prefer the ceremony and reception to occur outside.

Does anyone have any insight on weather and/or prices for these dates?? HELP!

Thanks in advance!

You may have high prices for the 14th since it's Valentine's Day weekend (thinking they may jack up the prices).  From what I've seen, April can be very hot in Playa del Carmen.  I know people who have done weddings then and said it was very hot...in the 90s.  I don't  think you will see spring breakers in February...I think you may experience a mid-winter break (kids), but since the Royal is an adults only resort, you should be fine.  I would inquire with them if they have an age minimum...some resorts that are adults only will only let 25+ say there.  As far as the water temperature, I think it's fine in February.  I just got married in December and the water was in the 70s.  Unfortunately, I don't have any insights on cost at that time.  I have been to Playa 4 times....in November, December, July and August.  In the summer it is HOT.

Have a beautiful wedding!

Hello aberg,

As a wedding planner in the Riviera Maya,  and living in playa del carmen, I do know that the prices in February fall into high season and the weather is simply perfect.  you will not be hit by spring breakers at that time.  On the other had if you hit april again you will get the warmth but it is really bearable especially once the sunset.

A little note, The Royal Playa del carmen inside town that means the beach is very busy, lots of tourist taking their walks there. Which makes your ceremony and reception semi private.

I would check with the Travel Agent from the BDW and they can advice on the exact price difference.

i had the same concern about the feb and nov. but decided to go for Feb.

Spring breakers dont get to come until March, so you will probably be ok then. Also its less likely to rain then.. BUt you never know bc its crazy weather. April they tell me starts to get really HOT and that was a no no for me. :) hope  this helps!

Hi!!!

I would go with April!  That's the month I chose.  Plus, im not sure where you are flying from but February is a cold, often snowy month.  the last thing you want is to be delayed getting to mexico for your wedding!
