The more notice, the more time people have to save money. I think it's a great idea to send them out that far in advance.

yeah, it's a good time to send save the date cards. My wedding is in October and I've sent save the date cards last month. You can tell your closest about the date with the cards. Since your wedding is not going to be large then you should send RSVP cards along with save the date cards to make sure how many guests are coming to your ceremony.

We had 11 months and sent the save the date. Most places you book with can put people on a payment plan and that has helped my guests.

I plan on getting married August 2016 and am thiking I'll send my STD in August 2014. The invites will go out February 2015 and I'll send reminder newsletters August 2015, February 2016 and the last one will be May 2016...

We just had to up the wedding by 2 months.  It has caused a lot have crap but had no choice

I sent our save the dates out 11 months before our wedding. I believe that is enough time for guest to make payment plans or decide whether they want to come or not.
