Airline Group Travel

Recommended Posts

Did anyone bother to get quotes from various airlines for their group?  A minimum of 10 people leaving from the same airport seems to be the norm and some sort of deposit is required from the "group organizer".  If anyone has experience with this I have a few questions:

(1) How did you get your deposit back after people book their flight?

(2) Was the lower price worth the hassle?

Thanks!

Hi Ana,

Group airfare is usually a pain to deal with.

1. it usually is not cheaper

2. it can be pretty restrictive with people needing to fly on the same day, same airport, etc.

One option is to see if the airline you want to use will give you a discount code that you and your guests can use for a slight discount.

I went with a group rate if I could do it all over I would have priced a few diff places. I like having a group rate so I could have info to give my guests and they could book with the agent if they wanted to. We have 13 booked with group so far. Two of my fiancés friends are bringing their gfs now so will be adding them on this week so we'll have 15 in total once we hit 15 myself or my fiancé get our trip for free not including taxes and fees tho. Most places have perks like this. Some of my guests booked on their own as well I like having the option there for them

Our deposit just went towards our trip

We did a group rate that 11 of our friends ended taking advantage of.

We did United but it seemed most Airlines were about the same in regards to procedure and booking

1) Each person put their own deposit down. It was $50.00 and it goes towards their cost of their ticket. So we just collected the $50 from each one and paid the airline. No money out of our own pockets :)

2) It did end up a cheaper rate. It turned out to be $150 more booking the normal way.

The biggest plus for the group rate was that people were able to book and hold the rate without paying the full airline ticket. The rest of the amount isn't due till 1 months before the flight. It gave them time to save up.

Even more for us, this motivated 11 people to book their trip way in advance :)
