Hello Ladies,

Here is the exchange of information I had with TA Dina for those of you considering to get married in Kauai or Kona.

"Hi Dina,

My fiance and I would like to get legally married in Hawaii. We are having the wedding celebration with family and friends in CAbo on November 17, 2007.

I am thinking of the Big Island or Kauai -- preferably where there is a Hyatt or Marriott. It will just be the two of us. I don't really like Maui since I have been there already. When is the best month to visit? We are thinking maybe Feb to April? Any resorts you can recommend on the Big Island or Kauai? Also we prefer resorts with wedding packages for two.

Thanks!

Jessica

Hi Jessica!

I don't think you can go wrong with either island. Depending on what you enjoy doing as far as activities might help you narrow down your choice a bit more. The Big Island tends to draw in the more "outdoorsy" tourists I find. Lots of exploring with Volcano National Park nearby. Horseback riding, scuba diving etc. The Waikoloa Beach Marriott is one of the nicer resorts on that Kona side of the island. The Hilton Waikoloa Village is another really good choice too. Nice area of beach. Shops, dining, activites nearby. At the Marriott you'd want to look for higher room categories as the lower ones tend to have crappy views if any view at all (think parking lot).

Kauai is probably one of my biggest sellers for honeymooners. Very romantic. The Grand Hyatt can't be beat. Great pool, great location. The Sheraton is nice too. Look at the partial oceanviews at Sheraton to be in a bldg closer to the beach. But overall, I like the Hyatt. Unless you want a more secluded location, I'd stick to the Poipu area (southern part of island). The North shore is definately great to visit and take a day to drive up to see, but it's a bit away from things. They say it's also the rainier part of the island, but that's obviously kinda hard to predict. And it's always raining in Hawaii somewhere, but they'll have a quick afternoon shower, and then gorgeous rainbows to follow. So you can't beat that!

As for best time to go, what's considered "high season" would be Dec-mid April so you'll see that reflected in the pricing. Weather will be decent (still could be rainy a bit) and you also might get to take in some whale sightings (northshore of Kauai is great for that). Booking early you might find some decent deals and specials with the resorts. So I'd definately recommend that. Price-wise (& crowd wise) the best time to go tends to be late spring, and early fall. Even less chance of rain then. And summer, I think it's just too hot in summertime. Plus all the kiddies are out of school then, so it's gets really crowded everywhere during the summer.

Oh, and as far as Oahu, I agree Waikiki tends to be a big much with the tourists but there are some GREAT resorts outside the area. JW Marriott Ihilani in Ko'Olino is beautiful. As is the Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore. Their beach cottages are awesome! Great for honeymoons. So you get the best of both worlds at these locations, seclusion from crowds, but still within a reasonable distance to sightseeing/shops etc.

So there's my Hawaii babble. If you have anything you'd like specific details on, just let me know (you can email me direct at [email protected]). And feel free to copy/paste this to the public forum. I wasn't quite sure where to fit it considering it's broken down by island over there.

Dina"
