Dress, Hair, Make up

Recommended Posts

So I am getting married next July in Mexico. I haven't even tried on dresses. Have any of you started. I am at a lost on what kind of dress to purchase. are you doing traditional or something beachy if you're having destination wedding.

Hair- Who is letting the resort do their hair? I am paying for my hair stylist room so she will be there.

Shoes- We are getting married on the beach so no shoes for me until the reception. What are you doing for shoes?

Makeup- I am pretty good with makeup. I am going to start taking lessons to make sure it is flawless. What are you doing for makeup?

I am on the same boat as you are! I'm getting my hair done by the resort....although I got extensions and a trial run here. I will bring some pictures of what I like :) As for shoes...I am also barefoot however, I have "barefoot sandals" that I purchased from ebay that I will wear. I am also doing my own makeup, with the help of my MOH of course. As for the wedding dress, I did it early....I couldn't wait! LOL We leave in 6 days!

I would recommend you to start trying on dresses ASAP if you haven't already. If you are going for a wedding dress, esp. traditional ones, they have a long delivery time! Of course you can buy sample dresses, or even dresses that aren't wedding dresses but beautiful white dresses (if you are going for white). I'm getting married in Fiji, and I'm wearing a destination dress - a light, simple dress.

Shoes: I'm wearing heels all the way, but I do recommend flip flops, or barefoot sandals. There are a lot of beautiful ones out there! Just do a quick google search, or browse through Etsy :)

I'm flying in my own hair and makeup stylist... The resort did not have the option, but I would probably bring my own anyway.... We're also flying in two photographers and a videographer from New Zealand, because we are only going to be the two of us, so the memories in the photos and videos are for all of our family members!

@@aoliver13 I would agree that you should start trying on dresses as well. I originally thought that I would pick something beachy and made of organza, but once I started trying dresses on I realized that those styles don't suit me and that I was really loving some more formal styles. You aren't going to know what you like until you start visiting shops. Go with an open mind and pick whatever you like best!

As far as shoes goes, I found a great shop on Etsy that sells bridal flip flops so I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a pair of those. Her shop name is BridalRossy.

I was going to get the resort to do my hair but after talking to other brides that got married at the resort, I've decided to hire someone to come to my room and do it for me.

I don't have any experience with Mexico but the resort in Jamaica that we got married at had a great salon. I just found she was a bit too heavy on the eyeliner for me and looking back I should have asked her to lighten it up, but at the last minute because of the heat I asked them to put my hair up. It was ok but my hair isn't long so it wasn't as nice as I had hoped. Then once we were actually down at the gazebo on the beach there was a beautiful breeze, and I could have just as easily had it down and styled and been fine. Live and learn.

I think if you have photos of what you want, then take them with you and I would definitely recommend a trial if at all possible. I know it runs extra money but just might be worth it.

My dress was chiffon, again because i wanted something cool and flowy. Because of health circumstances, and the fact that I'm alive, for our vow renewal I want my dress to absolutely WOW my husband. I want drama and I want his jaw to drop open when he sees it! lol  So definitely, go with whatever you're comfortable with!!

Happy planning everyone!!

@@Kyliewylie I second that has anyone used the resort?

I was going to use the resort to save money (Beach Palace), but I've decided to go with Styling Trio for peace of mind. I like the pics they've done and I like that they use airbrush makeup. I know in Mexico they also commonly apply their makeup heavier than I personally like. I"m also Asian and I want to make sure that the artist has worked with Asian eyes and skin tones before which Styling Trio has.

It's definitely a ton of money though! And if I do a hair and makeup trial as well, it's over $200 on top of what I'd be paying for the day  . So I think I"m going to just splurge for the day, and have them come in early enough that we can change things if I don't like it

It's kind of crazy that makeup and hair prices are more than what I'd be paying at home in Toronto!
