Wow! I finally managed some time to share my planning experience.

From the roots. We got engaged in Peru, in March 2012. Beautiful place, absolutely romantic and a complete surprise! (http://www.arennasmancora.com/)

Of course everybody started asking us right away "when is the wedding". I mean, c'mon, we just got engaged!

It took us a few months to figure out when we would actually do it, but we knew that we are going to pay for it ourselves. No parents involved. We also knew it will be a destination wedding, small and simple. So, we had to figure out WHERE..... Looked through some destination wedding websites and considered: Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, even Peru, however Peru got taken off the list pretty quick since my fiance is from Peru and we knew we won't be able to keep it small and simple should we decide to do it in his "motherland". Quiet honestly, we did not consider Mexico... We sort of wanted to keep it somewhat different and heard a lot that people just love getting married in Mexico due to its cost... Oh well, little that we knew... Started looking at some blogs and forums and accidentally found Tulum. Started learning more about it and decided to actually go there and check it out ourselves. Just for a week.

So, we got one of those 'all-inclusive' packages (sorry, won't mention the hotel, since we did not like it) and flew to Cancun. Rented a car for 1 week and checked in into this GIGANTIC hotel-town, within a town... OH, GOD! Right away we re-assured ourselves that we are not into big all-inclusive, hotel oriented weddings.

Oh yeah... Before we flew to Cancun, I have checked a few threads and found a wedding planner Angelina Cardenas. So, we were planning to get in touch with her once we get to Tulum.

Tulum is SPECTACULAR! If you have never been there - you should! Absolutely magical place and very rustic! Chic rustic, I mean....

That was it! We knew we are not going to look anywhere else! We fell in love with it! So, we got in touch with Angie and she agreed on helping us. I mean, Tulum is fantastic but Angie is THE BEST! Really! Absolutely strongly recommend her as a wedding planner! She works with the best people not in Mexico, but on Earth! Not to mention Cynthia Constantino, who will be our chef.

For a venue we booked villa: Casa Chic (http://www.casachictulum.com/) and narrow down our wedding list to 30 people :). Sweet :)

Hey Archigirl,

we are contemplating on moving our wedding to Mexico from Turks and Caicos for next October/November due to it being a bit of an easier travel for our guests from Europe and Russia. Tulum seamed like a great choice…we are going on our site visit in January. Did you get to tour Casa Chic? what did you think of it? any other properties for the main villa you liked? http://www.behlatulum.com/index.php/en/?

Also where is the rest of your group staying?

Thanks a lot and congrats:-) it's getting closer:-))

Hi Archigirl,

First of all congrats on the engagement and on finding the perfect wedding location, I couldn't agree more with you.  Tulum, is indeed SPECTACULAR! Hence I'm also getting married there haha! ;)

Casa Chic looks awesome!  Do they offer all the wedding preparations on your big day or do you have to seek external vendors to create the wedding of your dreams?

@@Torifire I'm also getting married in Tulum, except that we opted for a beach club named Ak'iin. We went for a site visit incl. a menu tasting, we were very satisfied with the menu, the location and the warm staff - so we chose them for our big day!

As a Mexican national myself, I highly recommend them to all destination brides... I did plenty of research and this was the best deal for the quality of their services.  I also wanted to make sure that our guests and family had multiple hotel options and not be stuck with a resort just because of the wedding taking place there.

I wish you all a happy and fun wedding planning in Mexico! I look forward to keeping in touch with both of you from here on.

All the best!

M

Everything it's customizable.  I didn't request package info, because my FI and I had already a solid idea of what we wanted, so we sent them the concept with photos and they gave us the quote for everything with the costs for each item.

Not sure exactly where Casa Chic is located at, but Ak'iin it's on the same block as Ana y Jose in the hotel zone.   Good luck finding your venue!

If you are looking for a great photographer, I just got married this past November in Playa Del Carmen and we used Christian from Gaia Photo Studio.  He is amazing and very fun to work with.  We also had a wedding of around 30 people so it was important that he was not intrusive.  I don't know how he got some of the shots that he did.  I can send you photos if you would like.    Contact him at christian velazco <[email protected]>

Hello Tulum brides, and congrats on your upcoming Tulum weddings! My husband and I were married at El Bistro Ziggy Beach at The Beach & Cabañas Tulum Hotels. The venue and hotels were great, and the staff there are amazing! Every time we go back we feel like family.

We actually live down here in Playa Del Carmen, and Tulum is our favourite place along the entire coast. If you have a wedding coming up, feel free to ask me any questions you may have, as I have spent quite a bit of time down there, as well as lots of time researching all the venues. You can see our engagement and wedding photos in my signature, both of which were in Tulum. (Both the town and the beach)

We also just got our wedding video that our friend put together for us, if you'd like to get a feel for the area! He really captured the feeling of Tulum with the video. The song we chose was written by a musician that spent two months down there living in a tent, so the song really feels like the area as well.

Here's a blog post with more info on the venue and our friend who shot the video: http://loveandrum.com/marry-me-katy-mikee-in-tulum
