How long to wait for the AHR

Great question! We are getting married on 12/5 so the holidays will just starting when we get back. Was thinking January or February but really wanted an outdoor summer backyard BBQ.....I wonder if I sent those invites around January it would work to do an early summer reception? I also want to have my pictures done so can't be too soon. Decisions, decisions!

I think January would be plenty of time for your guests to prep for a summer reception! I was wondering the same thing then I started reading more of the AHR posts. Seems like average seems to be around 2 months after your wedding but anything goes really (it is YOUR wedding after all!)

My photographer said they usually have edited photos to me within 2 weeks so that'll be nice. We're planning on mid October though so not sure if we can put something together before thanksgiving or not. We shall see after I get in touch with the venue I'm thinking of!

@@pandahugs We are getting married November 21, 2014, and we will be flying home the day before thanksgiving, and then we have christmas and new years, so I think we've been planning tentatively for the middle of January...about 7 weeks after we get married, I think that seems like a reasonable amount of time.  We still haven't booked a photographer because I haven't been able to convince my FI it's worth the money, but I have not given up hope

@@megthomson You made your 150 posts! :) Congratulations. But I think its up to you how long you wait, I think 6-8 weeks is standard, but I mean, when it comes to a destination wedding nothing is really standard so I agree that it's pretty much up to you.

Photog for you DW? Or for the AHR? Aw doesn't he want to have memories and pictures? Are you doing it at a resort where you can even just have a small photo package? Good luck convincing him either way!! FI though it was expensive too but I showed him other quotes that were all pretty much the same. Plus I told him that was one of the more important things I cared about so finally he understood.

We are getting married May 6th in St John USVI and will be away from May 3-16 and are having our party on June 6th. I figured this would give me enough time to get back into a routine! I also liked the idea of 5/6 & 6/6 significant dates.

I think any amount of time is okay as long as everyone who you really want at your party is "in the know" with enough notice to be available for your party!

I am getting married april 12 in cancun.  originally we wanted to get married in may but a bridesmaid put up a fuss so we changed.  anyway, we are planning on a small church wedding for family that couldn't make it to mexico & we hope to do it in may...so that's about a month after we get home.

Not sure about an AHR.  I refuse to spend a lot of money after the destination.  Several ppl let us down when it came to mexico...soooo I don't feel like I should spend a lot putting together a reception.  after wedding the next milestone is to buy a house.  Im not trying to put myself in debt 2 feed ppl.

Will prob just do some kind of backyard BBQ.

We waited a month. We got married April 18th and May 18th just happened to fall on a Saturday so we went with it. As far as displaying pictures- we did this by framing some and putting them around the guest book. I also made a photo guest book so it's all photos and people could look through and sign in the white spaces. Every photographer is different with turnaround time though.
