Canadian Brides: West Jet, Air Transat or Sunwing?

Recommended Posts

We booked our wedding through Marlin travel and we have had nothing but issues, we will never book another holiday through them. Our travel agent seems to be out of the office more than in, she encouraged us to book our wedding in November because she said it would be slower and we would have more choices for the date of the wedding.... When she finally got the date we found out that we will arrive on the Sunday but not get married until the Friday :-/ unknown to her there are 2 holidays the week we are going, something a travel agent should know. She then emailed me 2 weeks ago to tell me that we could not get the wedding package we wanted because Transat is no longer doing wedding packages with the resort but they would honor the most expensive package for us. I got a little upset and then she emailed back and said to to worry about it she has a few avenues she can go up to make it work for us??? Not really sure why a travel agent would stress out a bride 2 months before her wedding is she new she could make it happen :-/

Ummm ok these Sunwing horror stories are starting to freak me out. We have 2 months till our wedding and so far so good. Don't want to jinx myself here. I could handle a flight time change. But not a date Change nor a cancellation :/ are there any sunwing brides that had a normal or good experience to alleviate my worries ?? Lol :S

I have flown Sunwing plenty of times before this, and honestly can say that we have never had a cancellation or flight change with two months to go! I am sure that everything will work out just fine!

As an update on my earlier post, my travel agent was able to get sunwing to honor the early booking bonus of the every 11th person booked free deal so my fiance and my trip is paid for which is awesome!  Very good of Sunwing too and I actually have to give kudos to my travel agent for makeing it happen....I was not a happy customer lol.  Our released flight times with Sunwing are amazing (leaving early in the morning, direct flights both ways and leving mid afternoon on the way home...cant get much better than that so I really hope they dont change.  I cant imagine them cancelling the flight since we have 26 people booked on it...

I think Sunwing in the past has a really bad reputation but to be honest most of the recent stuff I have heard from people online and friends personal experiences, they have never had issues....so fingers crossed! :)

i agree...i think if you have an amazing agent to fight for you, you should have no issues...my agent is the awesomest (yah i just made that word up :P).....we have got 2 months left till our trip and i'm already trying to think of a nice gift to get him!!! he's so quick to respond and he's been so easy to work with!! ultimately, i'm sure it comes down to Sunwing but agents know the ins and outs of the business if they've worked there long enough....so i'm really confident everything will be fine in the end....

your flight times were released so early!! mine were only released last month!! and we are travelling this Nov ! lol lucky u!

We had an issue with the travel agent approach to booking for our wedding. We started looking in April of 2012 for our Sept 3 2013 wedding in Dreams Tulum. We tried going through a few different agencies but their quotes were always higher than what the airline direct was advertising as a price. We all booked through Redtag.ca or direct with Westjet on our own. Worked out to be the better choice! We love flying with Westjet even though their prices may be a bit higher, they are more comfortable to sit in than any sunwing seat!

Westjet now has the first 3 rows for upgrade seats, but only available for booking 24 hours before flight on check in. They leave those rows open for people who are booking Westjet Flights, not Westjet Vacations. It's $45 a seat but you get to board first, more leg room, an extra checked bag, unlimited food and drinks including alcoholic! It's prefect for the way down if you go that way, especially for the unlimited drinks! We didn't buy those seats for the way back although we wish we had!!

Just watch that when/if you book online with Redtag, you verify that the Westjet vacations choice is with the westjet vacations tour operator. Everyone who booked under redtag flew on a westjet flight, but their tour operator was fun sun which is a sunquest company. So we didn't get to all ride together on the same bus to and from the hotel. It was a long hour and a half ride with half of our group...

I'm leaning towards ACV - plus I get aeroplan which is great! My travel agent won't even deal with Sunwing because of all the problems with them... the only thing that sucks is that I was leaning towards a RIU resort but they are exclusive to sunwing.

We actually decided to book with WestJet Vacations because they were cheaper. Much cheaper. The only problem was, was that we only had a month to get all the deposits in or our guests may be subjected to a fare increase. They also had fewer incentives for the bride and groom, but we didn't want to punish our guests with an extra $300 per person just so we can get extra perks :)  Fortunately everyone understands *phew*
