Shipping Items to the Resort??

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies,

I'm having a tough time deciding what to do, and I'm reaching out to your past brides and creative brides-to-be for suggestions!

We are getting married at Azul Sensatori at the end of October and have about 120 guests. My fiance and I will be arriving one day prior to the first batch of guests, and we want to have welcome bags in all of the rooms for when they arrive. We do not want to spend the entire day before stuffing 120+ bags, not to mention schlepping all of the items separately in our suitcases. Has anyone attempted to FedEx/UPS a box to the resort ahead of time?  My coordinator doesn't "recommend" it, since it could get stuck in customs, but I'm thinking if I send it about 6 weeks in advance it would be ok?  Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?? I'd really appreciate your feedback!  Thank you, lovely ladies!!

I didn't specifically look into Mexico - but did look into shipping to Jamaica (I work for an international company and we ship all over the place - especially Mexico!) and it is EXTREMELY expensive. Just to ship copies of our birth certificates and passports was $57! I asked my Shipping Director at work and he suggested not shipping anything due to customs and it would likely get held up, let alone the expense of it all! Not sure if that helps or not - but we will be bringing 6 checked bags with us and I'm carrying on breakables and my dress :)

Shipping to Mexico is notoriously unreliable even if you use a major carrier (FedEx, UPS, etc) and customs can/will hold stuff. I recall reading about a Mexico bride who shipped her dress, and it never arrived at the resort.

Unless you're willing to take the chance that your items are never delivered to the resort, I wouldn't recommend it. I'd spread them out in suitcases, or plastic bins, and enlist some of your closest family & friends to help you by taking the goodies down with them. Are there items you could potentially purchase in Mexico, and avoid carrying them with you.

OOT bags are one of those things that are a really great idea, until it comes to the logistics of carting stuff down and stuffing the bags. Especially for a larger destination wedding...

good luck to you!
