I am having a destination wedding in September, we are going to Kailua Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. Our guests will be flying in from Guam, the East Coast, and West Coast. Because we know how expensive the trip out is (in addition to hotel, car, etc.), we felt it was important to make welcome bags for our guests. Rough estimates I am spending about $13 per bag which includes the bag itself, wet naps, sanitizing wipes, chapstick, travel size sunscreen, tylenol packs, chips, water (no personalized labels), and mini first aid kits. My welcome bags are not fancy, I just bought plain waterproof bags which my guests could use as beach bags during their stay. I am also not personalizing the water bottles, etc. In the end just look at your budget, destination, and who is coming. Also think about the other activities you are providing your guests. We are on a tight budget to we don't have any fancy pre wedding activities, we are also not having a traditional reception (just dinner), so it was important to show gratitude in a different way.

Hi shugapop1,

You can do some really cute things for not too much money. How many do you need to make?

I was debating the same thing BUT I think I'm leaning toward not doing them. I went to a DW once and most of the things that were in the bag I never used including the tote. Would suck to spend money on something people will never use or throw out. I have also seen a lot of OOT bags on this forum packed with things people (or at least I think they would) would already take with them on any trip. I think I am just doing OOT bags for my bridal party as a gift and give a welcome letter to each guest upon arrival, maybe leave it at the lobby where they check in. They will be getting favors at the reception anyway.

I agree fully. I think i've gotten caught up in seeing everyone else do them
I'm with you on that one! Some OOT bags on here are amazing!! These brides go above and beyond with the bags. I even find myself going to the dollar store just seeing what I would put in them LOL but again, it would be things that people would normally already pack with them. I think it would just be up to you and most importantly the budget.

Hahah I am defiantly one of those "going over board brides" when it comes to these things... I am adding a few things that my guest might have packed anyways but I am really trying to include stuff that they might not think to pack.

I do think that just a nice welcome letter is a cute way to greet your guest when they first get to the location.

A couple of brides on here that I have been sharing ideas with are doing something really cute and simple like a tumbler for each person stuffed with things like individual packs of aspirin, tums, pepto, aloe (I am including this in mine - I feel like most people will remember sun screen but not aloe, just in case) etc.  You can find all of those things for cheap (if you want places to get them I can help).

Just a thought!

Lori - I see you are right around your 1 year to go mark!!!  How is all your planning going??

Shugapop - Where and When is your wedding?? (if you don't mind me asking haha)

Congrats to you both : )

RaynDrop, Believe it or not the FI was the one that shot down the idea of the OOT bags, and I am not going to lie I was a little heart broken. I looove the idea of the tumbler, I might have to consider that one. YES! it's almost one year to my wedding! I am actually leaving to Mexico for a site visit on the day of the one year mark! I'm so excited, I am counting down the days! So far the planning has been going great. I have started purchasing things here and there and once I return I will be ordering/sending my STD. Thanks for asking! When and where are you getting married?
