What Has Been the Most Surprising or Annoying Wedding "Upcharge"?

Recommended Posts

Hi girls! This is an interesting threat because I was starting to think I was the only one that is afraid to say "wedding" at Riviera Maya! lol My wedding is in 2months and although the most of the payments are crazy ( the extra fee for bringing more people) for me the worsts are the flowershops and photographers. After days of asking costs I found the best costs with a flowershop that my planner suggested. I was completely desesperated with the super high costs and I wrote my WC telling her my problem It is 3 times less expensive than the cheapest cost i had found. But still crazy for me. Mexico is cheaper than Spain and even with this it seems Riviera Maya is some city of Japan (to say one expensive country). The other issue is the photographers. I am shock the hundreds of dollars they ask!

For us it really is just a family gathering! We've both been married before and all of our siblings have kids that are having weddings so really, I don't think there is the same expectation that we put on a big show.  I wonder if we told the resort that it's a vow renewal  (which it will be since we're getting married here first) would it be any less? This is more about our families getting together and having a good time than it is about watching us tie the knot, I think.

This is the best post ever this is exactly how I feel Mexico acts as of that we all are an American ATM or suckers tattooed on our forehead they are a third world Country for gosh sakes but they know how to gouge us on everything they would never do to their own people. I have Mexican friends and they said these are gringo prices! I'm not even gringo dang it. She says it is bc they know we will pay their price. I feel like the price thy quote us is ridiculous and it shoudl say 1000 pesos not 1000 us dollars for a paradisus vendor fee

When I vacationed in Los Cabo they acted the same way and tried to rip us off a few times and the maids at the RIU actually stole our stuff out of the safe, after I went ape shit on them and told them my fiance was a cop by some strange miracle they gave all our stuff back and said the safe was left open (which I know was bs). It sucks that they treat us like this when we are so nice to bring all these ppl into their country which in turn is making them money

No, I'm talking about if you have to pay for the vendor to stay in your hotel.  Like, to have the DJ that we are flying it stay there, the group rate for a single is $300/night.

So I have a friend that does event planning and corporate get togethers for a living. She is looking over my resort contract and she told me that most of the time, just asking to drop extra charges works.

For example: the $5 per person cake cutting fee. It's not a very big charge for the hotel so sometimes just asking helps. Of course this doesn't work all the time, but it doesn't hurt to try.

She is actually contacting the resort for me and reworking the contract for us! She's awesome, and this is why she is one of my bridesmaids :)

I agree with this completely b/c I mentioned some stuff to my WC about charges being way too much etc and she said she will discuss with her managers what she can do to help.

I agree totally! As this is my second marriage, so I wanted something more low-key & inexpensive. Everyone suggested a DW, but I was shocked to find that I am being nickel & dimed for everything. I have 50 guests that are bringing at least $50,000 into their resort for that week & it is an all-inclusive resort, so why do I have to pay $70/pp to sit in a private area to eat for one meal? & decor! Don't even start with that... its outrageous! I am so glad I'm not looking for an extravagant affair... it would be a fortune to pay for!  I am def warning future brides about realistic costs of  dw wedding. I still dont regret my choice but I have given up on alot of things I dreamed of having at my wedding just to stay on budget.
