Mother Daughter Dance?

Recommended Posts

My parents separated very early and he moved to live in the states, I stayed behind with my mom until he brought me here at age 16, I didn't live with him though, me and my sister moved out since we hated living with him and his wife, shortly after I went back to live with my mom in the DR again. The person that raised me, spend Christmas, my fist tooth, my first everything was my mom, she deserves the first dance more than anything in the world, she also deserves to walk me down the aisle.

My sister insisted that I have to let grudge go and make my father walk me down the aisle and have my first dance, I said absolutely NO! He does not deserve to give me away. After careful consideration, I know my mother doesn't dance, she would do it for me but she would be embarrassed to dead to stand there with all eyes on her, so a fair decision was to have my mom walk me down the aisle and then have a first dance with my dad, I wish my mother would dance though, I really don't even think he deserves the honor. cool.gif

Oh goodness! I can completely see where you're coming from. I have a similar situation so I understand where you're coming from. I think it's good that you're not forcing your mom to dance if she's not comfortable with it. Is there another way that you could honor her somehow? Maybe a special gift you could give her before the wedding. I know the issue is less honoring your mother and more the fact that your father doesn't deserve it. Some couples skip the mother/son father/daughter dance altogether. Or if skipping it is not an option, choose a super short song so you can get it done and over with. Good luck in whatever you decide to do. It's your wedding, and you can do, or NOT do, anything you want! Thoughts and hugs going your way!

Thanks Kasey, well, she is going to walk me down the aisle and I think she will be very happy about that (even though she thinks it should be my father's) - I do know my father will not be happy about it but there are many things I can call him out for, :-)

I will figure another way of honoring her too!

Hi ladies, Just an update from my wedding. After discussing the song list with the FI and our DJ, we decided not to do the "official" mother daughter dance. Mom and I did however, have an awesome dance off during the middle of the night out of spontaneity. It was a lot of fun, and everyone just gathered around us on the dance floor and cheered us on. In retrospect, I am happy that we did not have a scheduled plan with the dance with mom, and we just went with the flow.

Any decision you make ladies, just keep remembering that it is your wedding and your memories that you will cherish forever. Good luck with all your planning!

I was also wondering on how to incorporate father/daughter and Mother/daughter dance.  My mom was a single mom until I was in my teens then she met my step dad who is the greatest dad in the world to me and my brothers.  I am his little girl.  So I wanted to dance with both of them.  Thank you very much for suggesting to do half of a song with her and half with him.  its a great idea!

I'm also having my mom walk me down the aisle.  Not sure what i'm doing about the dance though if my grandpa goes then i'll do the grandfather/granddaughter dance lol.  He was always there for me like a father so I would love to do have my dance with him.  Not sure if my mom would be up to a mother/daughter dance.

I'm also doing a mother/daughter dance as my dad passed away when I was young.  I've chosen Carrie Underwoods 'Mama's Song' HOW COULD I NOT!!!! Will definetly be a tear jerker!!  My younger brother is also walking me down the isle!

OMG words can not express how glad I am to find this thread!  I have been looking for a song to dance with my mother.  She was basically a single mom raising us and I always knew she would be the one walking me down the aisle and dancing with me on my wedding day.  I had never heard of that Carrie Underwood song before and I literally could not contain myself.  The song has been over for about 5 minutes now and I'm still a mess crying.  It's such a beautiful and powerful song.  I think I just might have to use it and be a complete blubbering mess dancing to it. Gotta make sure I lay the waterproof mascara on thick that day.  LOL
