Wedding Processional: Divorced Parents

Recommended Posts

FI's parents are divorced; his father has a new significant other however his mother doesn't (at least she's not admitting..lol).

How does the wedding processional work with this dynamic?

Who walks his mother down the aisle?

Where does his father (with his significant other) fall into the processional?

I would seat his father & his SO first. Then his mother. Will there be another (close) relative of hers/your FI's who could walk her down the aisle? If not, maybe he can do it?

My husband walked his mom (and his sister) down the aisle, even though she is remarried. We had his step dad simply take his seat at the front with the rest of the guests. Once my FI escorted his mother, he took his position at the front of the aisle. Then my mom was escorted by my brother, and then my father walked me down the aisle (we didn't have a wedding party).

We chose not to include his father in the processional, as my FI is not very close to him.

hope that helps with some ideas! I would do whatever works best for you guys vs. worry about perfect wedding etiquette/order.

Thanks for the reply.  I think we will kindly ask the father's SO to sit on the second row when she arrives.  I don't really want her walking down the aisle.  She's kind of new to us.

Good idea about having a close relative walk his mom down.  I will see if one of her brothers can walk her down to her seat.
