a reception with NO DANCING????

Recommended Posts

For those doing their own music, do you just compile the songs yourself or do you hire a professional to compile them? How do you know how to space fast songs, from slow songs, upbeat to low key...I am sure there is some type of art to it and I am pretty inept when it comes to compiling songs on my own, so how do you go about making the actual playlist?

I definitely agree to those who want to have some fun in wedding reception. The guests will appreciate more if after the formal ceremony, they'll have time to mingle and dance with other important guests. Give all your guests a chance to know other people close to you other than them by having a simple dance ceremony.

RCBlondie - I am on a major delay here so not sure you will see this thread :) I just figured out how to see the threads I am subscribed too lol! Good idea to have a good selection of slow songs on in the background - slow dancing is the best and I agree with you..I don't get to do it too often so may be nice. I guess I am going to just play it by year and be prepared for it to go either way :) Good advice. How many are you having at your wedding?

Once again bringing this thread back to life :) :)

I would like to know what the brides did who started this thread?? Help us out!! lol We are having 18 guests plus us so I was not going to pay $200/hr for a dj. We are doing a private dinner on the beach. So I guess if we want dancing then we have to rent a dance floor etc...I thought we could just hang at one of the bars after then go to the hotel's disco. I have debated about bringing the ipod to play in the background....things that make you go hmmmm

Yeah, I've been to weddings without dancing (and without alcohol - the horror!) but it was because they were religious weddings and the parties didn't believe in dancing or drinking. What the heck do you do at a wedding without drinking or dancinghuh.gif? Luckily I wasn't old enough to care. BUT I think destination weddings are different. I don't think dancing or entertainment is necessary at all unless you really want it. We're only doing dinner and they might find some resort entertainment after but I don't feel the need to provide it. I wouldn't think twice if I were a guest - there will be plenty to do!

I agree..if its not there no one will care. I am going to have an ipod with speakers in the background during dinner and if someone feels like getting their groove on so be it :) not gonna stress about it. the only thing I feel we might miss out on is the first dance but then again this is not a traditional wedding so may not be missed anyway

I'm not even sure where we would dance if we wanted to. We'll be having a cocktail hour between the ceremony and dinner but the dinner is in one of the restaurants and isn't private. I figured after dinner we could hang at one of the bars but I'll be missing out on a first dance, father/daughter dance etc. Sad but I don't think there is any other way unless someone has some suggestions?

I'm in the same situation as you! I hope someone who's already been through this can help us out with ideas :)

I just went to a reception this past weekend with no dancing! They only had the courtyard of the restaurant, and the rest of it was still open to the public, so they had to keep the music calm b/c of their other patrons. They had a live guitar and a singer, who was actually quite good.

People were "dancing" in that they were moving to the music, but no serious "getting down" was to be had, if you know what I mean. They had a first dance together, but they didn't do the dancing with parents, etc. It was unusual, but to be honest, as a guest, it didn't matter to me b/c that's what they wanted, and it was tasteful and nicely done. Nobody really cares b/c they just want to see you together and happy. At least, that is how I felt.

They had an after-party planned, where I think there must have been dancing and wild times (I think they like to party), but we didn't go to that part. That is always an option for your party crowd! Hope that this helps!
