Grand Bahia Principe Tulum Wedding or other ??

Recommended Posts

Hello,

This is a change I am sure as I am the husband to be and planning the wedding and I do not want to mess this up so any help or tips I can get, I will soak it up.

I am thinking of getting married at the Grand Bahia Principe Tulum and wanted to get any tips or ideas from anyone who may know anything. Of course my partner Dayna will decide with me but I will do the leg work.

We need a place where kids are allowed, not a party place but still fun and Grand Bahia Principe Tulum seems to have it all. The place looks great and the feedback is good, not a fan of the distance from the airport but not a big deal. We are getting married in May 2014 so I am looking at booking now. We will have a bilingual wedding as my family (and I) is French-Canadian and Dayna's is English-Canadian so I have to keep that in mind.

I would appreciate any help, keep in mind I am a guy, lol, so what might seem normal to most is not natural to 'us'.

Thanks and looking forward to it.

Pierre

Hi Pierre,

Do not fret my friend, you are not the only to-be-husband planning a destination wedding! The Gran Bahia Principe is a great hotel! Either the Tulum or the Akumal section, no matter which section you stay at you basically have access to all the facilities at the others. The Coba section is nice too however its just at the back of the resort and a further walk to the beach.

If you are traveling from a Canadian gateway, Transat Holidays offers the Royal Golden section at the Akumal, which is a section that has been exclusively blocked off for guests that book with that particular wholesaler. If you are looking for May 2014 rates, they may not be available quite yet, not until May 2013.

The only thing, like you have mentioned, it is a bit further from the airport, about 1.5 hours. But the hotel seems like what you are looking for, 4.5* rating, clean, good food, good service, family friendly, fun and an all around good hotel.

The Grand Palladium hotels are good too if you want to check them out.

You can always direct PM me if you would like more details on hotels and pricing.

Good luck to you Pierre!

Hi Pierre, welcome to the forum! :)

We are also getting married at the Grand Bahia Principe, but in Jan 2014. We haven't actually been to this resort either yet, but have heard a lot of great reviews about the beach, food, and cleanliness of the resort both on this forum and on trip advisor. Also, their wedding packages are reasonably priced for the number of guests we are thinking we will have. I would suggest to have a read on the following posts re: this resort, they have a wealth of info (especially the 2nd one, which has a bunch of info on wedding details in the first few posts):

Also, a travel agent would be a great resource to get the ball rolling, we would be lost without ours! Good luck, and happy planning! :)

Hello Jill and Liz,

Thanks so much for the info, we do have a travel agent that we will use but I want to have a firm plan first so I can budget accordingly.

I will also look up the Royal Golden section at the Akumal as well as the Grand Palladium and Liz, if you are okay with it, I will kind of follow your posts as well to see how your wedding went.

Again, thanks to both of you, looking forward to to exchanging ideas or anything.

Thanks

Pierre

I am also considering the GBP for my wedding in February 2014. We have a mix of children and adults and this hotel seems to offer something for everyone. I did receive quotes and it was less than $100 more for the Royal Golden section at Akumal. I am certain we will book our stay there, although I also dislike the distance from Cancun airport. I was just in the process of looking at off-resort wedding venues to see if that would be an option that would be better for our group. I can't see my group enjoying a dance after dinner so I am worried the wedding will fall flat after dinner. Any suggestions? There will only be about 25 of us and the ages range from 6-66.

One more factor to consider about the GBP is their outside vendor policy........for example if photography is important to you.

Also we've used Westjet for flights from Canada to Cancun, and have found some great deals online at their website.......another option you may find useful.

Wishing everyone happy planning, and that you have the Most Amazing Wedding Celebrations Ever!!! Cheers :)

Hello new here. Getting married at the gazebo at tulum on December 12th 2013. Coming up very quick. I am trying to find out how long of a walk it is down the aiel? Bringing our own music. Would like brides maids to walk to different song then me the bride but can not figure out timing. Anyone else have this problem. Also been told that we can not take our own photos during ceramony. Is that true? Choose the cheaper wedding package that comes with some photos but would rather have a family friend (who's a photographer) take the rest of the photos. Can we do this? Ps hope I posted this in the right spot. :)
