Just for our families are going to need 12 rooms. Then add friends in still. Rough estimate is approx 16-20 rooms.

I've requested a contact with the resort and with a travel agent so now just waiting on both to get back with me. I honestly didn't think it would already be filling up so quickly 17 months out.

Hi @smhud1313, it could be that maybe it's not sold out but the pricing has not been released yet?

i kind of think the swim up rooms aren't available because they are not done being built.

in terms of mexico being scary people need to do their research.  The nearest drug cartel drama is over 9 hours away.  depending where you live in the US, our backyard cities are way more dangerous.

For privacy at a reception we chose to go inside the ballroom.  We figured we would be partying hanging outside all week that one night indoors would be fun for dancing and privacy.

what else?....  as much as I love PP i also have a few things I dont like.  It is small.  There isn't greenery on the beach (something i love)  but the truth is, we walked the entire coastline 8 hours, looking at every place, its hard to find the "perfect resort" you have to make your list of priorities and work down.  Ours were:  Beach, customer service & food quality.

We decide to have "outings" Guys golf trip to moon palace.....  snorkel day over at cozumel palace.  you have full access to the sister hotels.  we are going to take advantage of that.  Plus with the resort credit guests can go one tours, again more time away form the resort.

Happy PLanning.  My date is 6/6/14  so excited!

Thatpiscesgirl, you are absolutely right on that, even if you live in the most luxurious neighborhood in USA, you can't count on being 100% safe, look at what happened in the Boston Marathon. People infuriates me when they talk about what they don't know. We have been to Mexico three times, perfectly safe, we even been on tours over there and I don't feel any more unsafe that being in NYC. I was set on having the reception at the ballroom but after seeing the few wedding we saw, it would be awesome to dance the night away under the stars and have some fireworks at the end ;-) - It will also take some extra money/decorations to make it look more like a wedding and not a conference center - more decisions. :-S That being said, I m happy to report that fiancé had a conversation with her, stood his ground and told her that even if we have to stand at the beach by ourselves, we are going to do whatever we want and is best for us, so I don't feel as bad about it anymore. That was very surprising because he is a BIG family boy, I was worried he was going to tell me to change plans and just get married here. :-) My fiancé and his Friends are big golf guys so that is another reason to pick Moon, we also thought about them doing a trip over there. As it is now we are leaning towards Moon. I have to think it through for a couple more weeks but my head is in engagement party mode now, so I might make a final decision after June 15th (party date), I think I will also ask a few friends what they prefer, if a nice beach and more intimate resort or tons of things to do and options to dine with nasty beach.

Hi everyone, I have narrowed down my choices and Playacar palace is in my top 3. Why did you all choose this resort? We are estimating 60 guests and really want a smaller resort. We also want it to be cost efficient for our guests. My one concern is that we are getting married in April which is spring break, have you found the resort to be filled with kids? Does the playacar have a sister resort that's adults only? Also, were you able to get a good group room rate from the resort? Any insight would be very helpful!! Thank you!!

Hi Mamzaleg,

Sun Palace is adults only. I have also replied to your PM.

We checked out 8 hours worth of places up and down the coast.  These were our priorities:

1.Beach, rock and coral free great for swimming

2. Food Quality  - rare cases of the common travelers diarreha at most places in mexico

3. Customer service - knowing that our guest would be well taken care of

4. Small - so that it felt lik ethe resort was "our party"  if everyone was going to travel we wanted to see everyone. (unlike Moon palace which is like its own city)

Playacar Palace was all these things.  When we had our site inspection there weren't many kids.  The resort doesn't have all that much for kids to do, if i were a parent i would choose elsewhere.

I can't speak for everyone but spring breakers usually are on a budget.  (approx $1500-$1800 pp including flight) is quite a bunch of money for a spring breaker, whereas for an adult...  worth the quality of service you receive.

PLayacar is great too for all the free add ons.  If you have 60 people coming you will basically have a free wedding and all free private events for up to 40 ppl.

I really liked the Royal but it was $$$$.

And I love Ibersostar, but its a 3 star so you take the risk of food, quality customer service.  Iberostar Tucan was a perfect vacation but I would be nervous to have my wedding there.

Does this help?

I'm debating between Playacar vs. Beach - did you check out Beach Palace and if you did what made you choose Playacar > Beach?

Thanks

I just posted this in a different PP thread but think it might serve well here too...  I just got back 3 days ago from my visit to the Riviera Maya to look for venues.  I didn't have to look to far once I got there.  We stayed at Playacar Palace and absolutely LOVED it!!!  Their beach is just stunning and the customer service I received from everyone planning my trip out there and upon arrival was just outstanding.  That being said, I looked at secrets and contacted other resorts, the lack of response and willingness to assist me without involving a travel agent had me already pretty annoyed by every other resort.  I do not think 5 days to respond to an email is acceptable, and as it gets closer to the wedding date if that were to happen.. look out!  But I digress.  There is so much to do between Senor Frogs and 5th street at Playacar, I think everyone coming will have a blast.

My only bit of advice I'm looking for from all of you ladies; I got to see a wedding while I was there and it was stunning. The only thing I didn't really care for were all of the people surrounding the wedding and gawking.  I understand that since it is so public there is not much to be done and after seeing more resorts I also understand that its pretty much like that doing a wedding at any resort, but some of these people were REALLY close.  Two young boys in bathing suits sitting right behind the chairs watching and talking, people behind the ceremony (between the ceremony and the water, kind of killing any ceremony pictures with the water in the background), people just on the beach that didn't seem to care what was going on (one oblivious girl even let her dog run wild).  In between the bridesmaids walking down the stairs three girls in bikinis ran down the stairs.

I definitely understand that this is a public beach and a crowded resort and I can't have it all to myself :)  But I don't want random people in bathing suits in my pictures or kids in bathing suits walking ahead of me as I head down the isle.

A girlfriend of mine suggested tiki torches with ribbon tying them together to kind of rope it off.  Would this be allowed?  Has anyone else done anything like this to rope off areas and is that allowed on public beaches?  I think one of the ladies at the resorts was joking about hiring some family to muscle the beach for us during the ceremony haha and I wouldn't be opposed to that if we could do that...  Maybe dress them up like federales and arm them with waterguns?  Thanks all!!
