Hi, I am new to this and I have just sent away the proposal for our February 8th wedding day to Moon Palace resort and spa in Mexico. Can't wait to really start planning. Biggest issue we are having right now is the guest list. Any suggestions on how to decide who to invite and who not to. We are planning on throwing a party when we get back so we can invite those that were not invited to the wedding. We were just going to keep it to family and really close friends, but now the debate we are having is the family we invite. Especially on his side his italian/polish. Large families on both sides.

Any suggestions would be great.

I was a Sun Palace bride but we stayed at Moon Palace so I can help you with any questions you may have- feel free to PM.

 

As for the guest list- we invited everyone to the wedding that we would have invited at home knowing that most people were not going to come and then we had an open house party at our house 2 months after the wedding. 

 

We invited about 110 people to the wedding and 39 people came to Mexico with us! Pretty good turn out and it was a perfect number for us- not too many but not too little and we had about 90 room nights so we got the max group benefits so I did not may anything for my ceremony, cocktail hour or reception!!

Thanks for sharing @shan0487. I am currently torn on how many to invite too. b/c My FI to invite EVERYone (~300 people) and I want to keep costs down but want a decent turnout (60-80people). Not sure if we should invite the 300 and hope for 80 or invite significantly less.

300 people is a lot to invite to a normal wedding, esp a destination wedding so that could go either way- you could end up with 70 or 200!!!! Just remember destination weddings are meant to be more intimate and as long as your closest family and friends are there to celebrate with you that is all that matters!! I wouldn't have changed anything about my 41 person wedding it was the perfect amount.  Now when I go to weddings back home I stress out for the bride and groom thinking about how they have to talk and throw a party for 200 plus people!

@@rockerchic We decided to invite everyone who we were going to invite if we had a wedding in our City. A lot of people aren't going to show due to cost and/or time off work. I think it also depends on the resort as well, there are many that include the wedding dinner and others were you still need to pay per person. So if you are doing a destination wedding to keep cost down and your resort is pay per guest then I would invite family and close friends.
