Stinky Starfish

I am using white dried starfish for my placecards and my, oh, my...I just got them the other day and they SMELL!!!!! I don't want to place these on the table in fear that my guests would get sick from the stench.Does anyone know how to get rid of the smell? ANY help would be greatly appreciated by me and my guests

I believe there is another post called "Smelly invitations" on this very topic this would problably have the info you need. I will see if I can find it.

I just read abou this topic on the knot, they all said to let them air out for a couple of days and the smell would go away.

 

Someone else suggested spraying them with a clear sealer.

I have 200 sitting in their boxes and the smell really bad!

I used some on my invites and I just let them air out for a week or so. It usually does the trick.

The ones I used didn't stink, but I've heard that leaving them out in the sun for a while does the trick.

Thanks guys! I will try airing them out. I've been keeping them sealed in the bag to avoid spreading the smell around our apartment but I'll take them outside tomorrow!

I ended up just airing mine out for my invitations, and they were fine!

I have starfish that are going to be on the table, I wasn't even thinking about how bad they smell!! I'm so dumb! I'm going to have to try to air them out a little once I get to mexico because right now they're all packed up in a container with bubble wrap.
