Wedding bands after the legal courthouse part here, or wait for ceremony in MX?

Recommended Posts

Just wondered what is typical or appropriate.  FI and I are getting married here in the states a week and a half prior to our DW on Isla Mujeres, MX.  Do we wear our wedding bands after legally getting married at our courthouse, or wait until we have our symbolic ceremony in Mexico?  I love our bands and can't wait to wear them, but I don't want the ring part of our MX ceremony to be anti-climatic.

What do other couples do?  Or what is appropriate?

Thanks in advance!

I think it depends if you want your friends and family to acknowledge your spiritual date as you anniversary and you aren't spreading the court date then I would not, plus it will make the spiritual all the more meaningful and the first time he puts it on. If you don't care which date is acknowledged and everyone knows then wear them. I think typically most people wait but it's a personal preference, this whole experience should be about your hearts desire.

I agree, I think that there is no right or wrong answer to that. Do whatever feels right to you. We are doing our legal ceremony (and by ceremony, I mean just signing the papers) before we leave too, but we are not telling many people and we are not exchanging rings or anything. But as Cherina said, we are doing it that way because we are treating our Mexico ceremony as our anniversary and really our only ceremony.

agree with lgerry & Cherina.

We did our legal paperwork marriage a couple of weeks before we left. We went by the courthouse to see the judge on the way into work one morning. I think the judge was thrown off that we weren't dressed up lol We didn't exchange rings, though the judge did have us say the basic vows and kiss. It just wasn't a big deal for us (intentionally). Some of our friends knew we were legally married, but we didn't talk about it really. None of that took away from how special our wedding was in Mexico.

For us, our Mexico wedding date is our anniversary.

Thank you for your replies...

Although our legal date isn't a secret, I have decided that I want us to wait until our Mexico wedding ceremony to wear our rings.  I'm putting aside my instant gratification because I want the Mexico ceremony to be as special as humanly possible.  That's the date we'll be using for our anniversary, so I think we're best off saving everything for that day.

Thanks again!

We want to wait until our wedding ceremony in Cuba to wear our rings.  That's the date we'll be using for our anniversary...in fact, we are not even exchanging vows on the date we sign the legal document.  It is simply going to be just that, signing a document with witnesses.

We got legally married 6 MONTHS before our beach ceremony. Trust me when I say it was a long hard wait to put the ring on. We use our beach date as our anniversary date though, and it made our ring exchange all the more special. It was worth the wait!
