My DIY Beaded Barefoot Sandals Jewelry

Recommended Posts

I have seen these on the internet and they seem popular (and practical) for a beach wedding. I actually have shoes that I LOVE that I will wear for the ceremony and pictures. Since I will have nicer shoes, I want my bridesmaids and MOH to also wear shoes but I did make them these for beach pictures and for whenever else they want to wear them.

These were fairly simple to make even though I had never done any beading. I purchased all my supplies at Michael's (with a nice coupon!)

Supplies:

Beads

Clear Elastic Thread

Beading Needle

Patience and no kids! lol (We have an 18 month old son and this project was definitely done after bed time)

All I did was string the beads onto the elastic using the beading needle and once it was long enough to fit around my ankle made a knot. Then I added the beads for the long part that goes over top my foot. Once that was at a good length, I added the smaller beads that go around the toe. Then, I made a circle with the small beads to create a loop for the toe, tying a knot between the toe loop and the long string of beads. That's it! I know it sounds kind of complicated, but I can't really type the instructions clearer. It's really trial and error, though. Just basically string beads long enough to fit your foot and you'll be good to go.

I made myself an ivory pair:

Please excuse my unmanicured, not-so-cute feet. My feet really don't look THAT dinosaur-ish in real life...it's hard to take a good picture of your own foot! lol

My bridesmaids, MOH, and flower girl will all wear purple:

Happy Planning, ladies! I know this one is a little confusing as far as my instructions, so please let me know if you have any questions! :)

These look great, good job!!!

I'm planning to make a pair for myself, my girls, and both our mom's. I bought all the supplies from etsy and now I'm just waiting till a less busy time to get started. I feel like I'm procrastinating because honestly I'm a little scared of this project, lol! But seeing yours is getting me motivated! lol

Thanks for sharing!

I highly recommend Etsy, you can find much better prices than say Michaels or other craft stores. Ebay is also good for scoring deals!

That's a great idea to make them for your moms as well! I know what you mean... I had never done any beading before so the task seemed a little daunting to me but once I got started and after a little trial and error I was more confident and I'm pretty happy with them The best thing to keep in mind is they are just beads. You can't really mess up bc you can always cut the string and start over! :) I'd love to see your finished project!

What a clever idea to give them as a gift when you ask them to be in your wedding! Love it! As far as finding the right beads... Etsy and eBay are definitely great! Michaels can go either way. For me, Michaels was the way to go bc they had exactly what i was looking for and they were on sale plus I had a coupon!

Okay you are the DIY queen! So...question...does the thread have stretch? Do they seem fragile? And how did you size the different shoes sizes for your bridesmaids? I have a size 7.5 foot, but two of my bridesmaids wear 9's.
Haha first off- thank you. :) For me, DIY, scrapbooking, graphic design... It's all very soothing and fun to me. I just really love it! For the sandals- yes the string I used is elastic. I used clear so you can't see it. I found it right in the beading aisle at Michaels. It was long enough for me to make 4 pair with plenty left over. Sizing- I really lucked out on this. My foot is about a 6.5/7 and I know my girls have similar sized feet. Similar enough anyway. If i were you I'd use your foot as a guide and then for the 9's just make the string of beads that connects the anklet to the toe loop slightly longer. Better to have them a little snug. Since they are elastic they will stretch. If they are too long they flop over and don't look so good. I made my first pair too big and had to start over. They seem a tad fragile but not bad. My 18 month old got ahold of one and was pulling on it and trying to put it on and it survived so I'd say all in all they are pretty sturdy lol
