1st Anniversary Gift Idea

So - paper is a bit difficult to work with for guys.

 

In our situation, I have a lot of artwork that my husband has graciously adopted but nothing is "us."

 

So, I have decided to take a picture from our wedding (a close up of our hands as I slip his ring on his finger after he's put the ring on mine) and have commissioned an artist to render a pencil drawing. I am writing a love letter on the back of the picture that I will show him before I place it in the frame.

 

I am going to replace a picture that's on the wall that we see when we wake up every morning so not only will he see this picture, but he'll know about the letter underneath (he's a softie so these kinds of things resonate with him).

 

If you want to do this, there are a lot of really great artists that you can find on the web. Make sure you see a collection of their work - with both the picture submitted and the final product so you can compare the job they do. It's really not too expensive. I'm having a 11x14 picture done for $160. I'm going to mat and frame it in a 16x20 frame.

 

Another thought - I was going to have the artist meld a picture of me with a picture of him from when we were both little - I just ran out of time to go over to his mom's house to go through her photos.

I was searching for ideas for our anniversary gift (can't beleive it's been almost a year already!) and came across Natasha's idea which I LOVE! Figured to bump it for anyone else interested.

Something else that turned up in another "annivarsary" thread was a personalized night sky from the night you were married. I think I am doing this. We have like NO artwork and it could be a really cool thing to have around. What on Earth - A Collection Of Fun Wear & Delightful Diversions

 

But now I am wondering on the words to personalize it. Matt is a mushy type of guy, but I am not a mushy (in that way) type of girl, so I suck at coming up with cool stuff to say! Any ideas?

Ohhh, or something else that I just thought of along Natasha's idea was to get one of my BD photos blown up! Like one that doesn't ahve my face in it, so other people might jsut think it's art. Hmmmmm. Why did I wait until I only have like 5 weeks to start thinknig about this!

I know that my friend Kathy is doing this too, but having her friend put them on a canvas. I think she's going to do 4 of the close up body pics (no face) and hang them in their bedroom as "art". I love the idea! How do you explain it though when someone asks about it? Whatever who cares, I still love it!

So I got all wrapped up in that idea, but would canvas count at "paper", since that's the traditional gift??

Hmmm... I didn't think of that. Well, I searched it on google, and a lot of supply sites came up selling canvas paper, so I'm thinking that maybe it is. I don't think she's doing it for their anniversary though. Just after the wedding.
