Flow of reception/no dj

Recommended Posts

So I guess I'm having a duh moment or something along those sorts.

We are having a semi-private cocktail & semi private ceremony at our resort. I will not be having a dj, just bringing in our own ipod music. I know normally dj's announce and keep the party going, so I am worried that without one I will not be able to keep our party going, I won't know how to go into dancing, and speeches, cake cutting and such. I don't even know where to begin. Those who did not have a dj, how did the timeline of events work out at your reception, who introduced everything, how did the flow work? Help :)

We had a friend act as MC- we did everything right away to get it all out of the way... wedding party entrance, then our first dance, then father daughter and mother son dances, then we ate dinner.  Then after dinner we did the speeches and cut the cake and then started the real party! :) You want to start the dancing with a song that is good for all ages to get everyone out on the dance floor- I don't remember what our first song was or else I'd share! Hope that helps!! :)

We have also chosen to not have a DJ

As he was $100 an hour and did not announce anything! Seems weird to me. So I just assume bring my ipod and play our own music as well.

So that is what I have been doing the past few days, downloading all kinds of music.

As I had to find songs to send to the DJ anyways! Better to do it myself :)

I have not decided on the timeline yet either lol

Good Luck!

I am also playing my iPod and not using a DJ. There is an app called weddingdj that is great..it organizes your songs in categories and fades in and out.

We are also having a friend be the "MC". Just to help with the flow and announce dances and such. Our reception is going to be pretty laid back ..

Here is our timeline:

Entrance (he will announce)

Dinner-toasts during dinner

First dance

Father daughter dance

Mother son dance

Dancing!

Cutting cake

I think it depends on your guests and such.

We are going to have an iPod set up just for music during dinner. We also want to do our dances there, but the coordinator said that they usually do the first dances on the beach right after the ceremony.

For the party, we are heading to the disco on the beach.

I asked my brother to announce things. We will have a small group though, so that will be easier.

As it stands now, this is our timeline:

Ceremony

Group picture

Pictures on the beach - family first, then bridal party, then couple. As each "group" finishes, they can go to resort lobby lounge - I do not think we will do a private cocktail hour, we will just meet everyone.

Meet at reception area

Announcement

Bride/Groom Dance

Parents Dance (we are probably combining the father/daughter one with the mother/son one, then we are giving my mom and his dad the opportunity to dance at the same time if they wish... kind of like bringing together both families.)

Toasts

Dinner

Cutting of the Cake

Move to disco?

I think that is how it stands now, anyway!
