Also if you want a cocktail hour it is 20 USD. The cocktail hour is held in the garden right were the wedding will take place. I also asked about a laundry service at he hotel that could steam my dress once I arrive. The WC said they could do that but hey needed the dress 2 days prior to the wedding. Just a few things I thought I could share that might be helpful. There is also 3 options for the semi private dinner reception.

*Restaurant Isla Mujeres -Steak House (á la carte) - sitting reservations only if available 1° sitting 6:45pm or 2° sitting at 8:45pm

*Restaurant Tamales - Mexican (á la carte)- sitting reservations only if available 1° sitting 6:30pm or 2° sitting at 8:45pm (maximum 15 people)

*Restaurant Kabuki- Japanese (á la carte)- sitting reservations only if available 1° sitting 6:30pm or 2° sitting at 8:45pm (maximum 10 people)

Hi...when you say $80 per person including food and beverages....please tell me that is alcoholic ones too?....my destination wedding planner sent me a list of alcohol with pricing next to it and I freaked out because we're getting married may 2014 and already have 67 people who have paid and confirmed....

I am getting married 12th april 2014 in the riu palace peninsula and was also told i would need to pay for a private function and to also have a DJ! Does anyone know the crystal box option? Is this the room shown above? That was about 50dollars cheaper pp than the garden option.

Thanks :)

I was told the crystal box option is at the steakhouse for a private dinner. Your menu is the normal steakhouse menu for $30 per person and including an open bar

I didn't need a boutineer for the groom because all the men were wearing pocket squares instead i also didnt need a table in the middle of my ceremony underneath the arch (which also came with a centerpiece flower arrangement) so instead of the centerpiece and boutineer i asked for two arrangements as you walked down the aisle. They were more than happy to do it. From start to finish the meeting with the wedding planner lasted 1 hr. flowers, order of ceremony, arch decor, colors, cake, reception decor, food, table decor, DJ, lighting, etc. and it turned out perfect! And I'm a perfectionist.

congratulations again. Your posting makes me feel so relieved.  I'm glad everything went smoothly for you. I know they charge extra for dj, how about lighting ?

My price included lighting, DJ, microphones, dance floor, etc. $3800. I didn't negotiate. I felt like it was affordable and after seeing what they do it was very reasonable. A DJ alone in my home town with nothing but music and speakers is 2500+. My dance floor alone was worth it. My total cost for my wedding with the hotel was 5500.00. No complaints! I didn't ask any questions. I just paid the man. Check out the arrangement that was on one of my many tables of food. This was on the "truffles table". I didn't realize the effort they put into displaying the food. This arrangement is completely made of fruits and vegetables. 400 This one one of our tables at the reception 400 Please know that I am posting this stuff to brag. I am just trying to show you what you get with a riu pennisula wedding. This wasn't their standard setup. Perfect!

When we met with the WC he showed us a book of 20 or more flower arrangements and we chose from those. We made all decisions once we got there. You can email back and forth all you want but when you get there you talk about everything like its the first time you've discussed it so that's why I say don't waste your time emailing before hand. I think my additional flowers cost all together were no more than $150 maybe less.

Oh my gosh.  I wrote this thread a long time ago not expecting any responses and then my fiance' told me today that there were 40 posts!  I have to say that "Simpsondunn," your posts were very helpful and I really appreciate the insight.  I have been feeling anxious since our WC is Jared and he has been very confusing via email.  I am glad to hear that once you actually get to the resort that everything gets all sorted out.

Anyway, my wedding is on October 25, 2013 so I will post lots of pictures and information when I get back. Thanks again for everyone's posts and pictures.  :-)   Good luck to everyone planning their weddings!
