ok, question time: the very first wedding i was in (but none since then and i've been in a LOT of weddings), the bride had a lace up back and those of us that were her attendants vowed to NEVER have a lace up wedding dress for our weddings as it took us 3 times to finally get it right.  but i see so many of you with lace up dresses and am now wondering if that's the way to go.  thoughts? comments? would love to hear why you chose to go that route.  thanks!

Personally I prefer a back with buttons, I think it is timeless and elegant! But then you have the buttons to deal with, unless you get a hidden zipper and fake buttons. Its really up to you and the look you want. I am just in favour of buttons because I think they look much more elegant.

Really? No lace up back? I love the look of the lace up back and am sad that so few short dresses come with the lace-back...

It's on my wish list, but I know I probably won't get it. Plus, FI loves that look too...

Was it just that it was so finicky? This gives me something to think about...

to be honest, I've always thought the lace up back was reminiscent of a lingerie corset, and, like you, I was determined not to have anything that laced up (funny, I don't have buttons either, just a hidden zipper). that being said, I did try on a dress or two that laced up, and the fit was amazing. it was amazingly tight, too (in the 'can't-breathe') sense - why do those consultants tug on them like it's the 16th century?? anyhow, I'd imagine that people choose the corset based on the way the dress fits them, but there are plenty of non-corset dresses out there.

At my bridal salon they allowed my mom to practice multiple times, so she will not panic the day of, so now she feels confident she will enlist some help and have no problem. I preferred the corset because I felt like it pulled me in and gives the dress and extra flare. As long as you have a main person that will help you get it right and is willing to practice (before the day of), than go for it!!

But, then my sales lady pulled this one out, as soon as she started doing me up I knew it, I completely pictured myself walking towards my man wearing this dress! ...and then I ugly cried and so did all of my girls.  I COMPLETELY lucked out with this dress, I can buy if straight off the rack, the only modifications I need are a sweetheart neckline, cups and a bustle.  Finally a time when being 5' 11" will be a positive when it comes to the length of an article of clothing cheer2.gif

I'm super pumped!!

I didn't get a good picture of the detailing on the bodice part, but it's a very pretty flower detail...I  love it!

My dress had the option of either being lace up or buttons..I chose the lace up just for the snug feel and it looks prettier on my dress!! It also is less alterations..I'm sure I will have my bridesmaids there on my final fitting to make sure they can do it properly! In the end its all a matter of opinion on each person!!

Not only do I have a lace up dress, but my bridesmaids (5) of them have them as well!  I feel like we're going to have to make a big circle to get each other dressed.  It will be a good pic.  I liked the way the corset fit me and we all don't have to worry about broken and stuck zippers.
