Hey ladies. Went to Kleinfelds this weekend and I found my dress!  It's so pretty and it is perfect for a destination wedding..the salesgirl was so happy I picked that one.   However,I decided not to buy it. But not because I was unsure, it's because I'm being a savvy shopper instead. I live in NJ,and there is no sales tax on wedding dresses in NJ. PLUS, there's a great bridal boutique about 15min from my house highly recommended by a friend who purchased her dress there for her recent September wedding. The NJ boutique has a trunk show in a few weeks for my dress' designer which means about a 10% discount if I place my order at the trunk show, AND the alterations are about $200 less than Kleinfeld who charges $700 flat fee. So.....I think I'll be making out pretty well!!  Yay : ) I'll be purchasing a dress in a few weeks but I can say my search is over!

I apologize if this tip is already somewhere here in this thread...I just don't have time to look...but I thought it was important.  I was chatting with the owner of the bridal shop that I bought my dress from the other day about the garment bags that they sell and whether or not I should purchase one.  She mentioned that a few of her brides have told her that when they've carried their gowns thru airport security, their dress bags have been opened and the wedding gowns patted down (even when they've been put thru the x-ray machine).  She said to make sure that if it appears the security/customs agent is going to do this, that you ask them to put gloves on (if they're not wearing them already) OR change their gloves to a new pair to avoid them transferring any dirt, grime, etc. on to your dress.

Great tip!

For the record - my dress went through the x-ray machine in the garment bag that came with the dress (the bridal store really should supply one free of charge) and they never opened it up.

One more tip - when you get on that plane, make sure you TELL the stewardess NOT TO FOLD YOUR DRESS.  They have closets and other methods of hanging your dress, so don't just take their word that it has to be folded and put in the overhead bins.  They lie lol.

My alterations place told me the same thing and of course I didn't listen on the way there and my dress was the ONLY dress folded - it was hung with everyone else's but they put the loop on the bottom of the garment bag over the top of the hanger...It was bustled in the garment bag and the loop for my bustle ended up breaking...I was pissed...
