To be honest, I am not using the sash on the back - it snaps into the top of the bodice (on the back obviously).  It does have a puddle train, but like you I'm not sure I want it dragging through the sand... I really think you need to talk with a trusted, reliable seamstress to see if it can be done.  Sometimes what we want isn't always possible due to the cut of the dress.  It certainly sounds easy enough but definitely check with the shop/seamstress!!! I think it depends on your skin tone. personally, I don't wear ANY white. ok, the occasionals t-shirt or pair of shorts, but that's about it. the idea of a gleaming, brilliant white dress was daunting. also, I have very fair skin with olive undertones, so white would have just washed me out more, whereas ivory is a much better complement (I feel most comfortable in earth tones). there's a whole science of coloring based on seasons (spring, fall, summer, winter) that may provide more professional guidence. you can try googling if you need the validation, but honestly I think you chose your color (even instinctually) for a reason and it was the best for you. : ) best of luck!

Keep in mind if you do cut a train into it, then you will need to either carry it around or have a bustle created for it.  I personally think it is lovely as is and very bridal and great for a destination wedding,  Good luck!

My gown is in ivory and and champagne.  Ivory is definitely the better color for me as well so I would not worry about it too much.  I am sure that you will look like a very beautiful bride on your special day!

Kellygrrrl I worked in a bridal shop a few years ago.  They had their own seamstresses on site so I saw quite a few bustles.  A talented seamstress can create a bustle that looks natural on your gown - not just a hook and eye. I would look into what options they have beyond that or inquire online about other seamstresses and what they can create that would blend with the style of your gown and not scream out that it is part of the bustle.  Just a thought.

also, a bustle is added to nearly every type of train so you don't have to worry about dragging it through the sand during the reception. they keep trying to push me toward the under-bustle (mine is a simple dress like yours), but I prefer the side-swept one. only issue is that requires a noticeable hook-type closure added to the dress. again, a seamstress will be able to advise, just know you won't be stuck dragging it around all night if you do opt for a train.

oh yay - it was david's so I should have known. ; ) we were just talking high level, and truth be told, I don't mind if there are small visual things to get the nice bustle. we were also discussing bustling the veil and affixing it to the dress with clear snaps, so I'm sure you will see something up close. it's just not a huge deal for me - I'd rather have that than than a veil in my face a dragging dress. ; )

I am on board with all the other ladies here, the best color is with your skin tone.  I'm sure you would have noticed that the white was too stark, hence why you ordered it in ivory.  Beautiful dress and I bet the ivory adds a soft look to it!

I think White is super hard to wear on most people. Ivory is much softer and flattering! You made the right choice!

That dress is stunning!!!!

 

Personally, I'm a fan of white.  That being said, I'm olive skinned, I tan dark quickly, and we will be in Punta Cana for almost 4 days before the wedding.  So white will be suiting me...if you are fair at all, or don't tan dark, then ivory is definitely the way to go.  It's all personal preference too...
